As a side project, we host regularly scheduled hikes across Southern California so that you can participate in the adventures that inspired Hyker Girl. We’ve trained and taken teams to Mount Whitney and Half Dome. We’ve camped in Death Valley, and we’ve road-tripped to nearby states to explore Zion, Bryce, Antelope Canyons, and Valley of Fire. PANAMA CANAL.
The Panama Canal is a bucket list kind of trip, especially the old locks being over a 100 years old.
We did this trip on the Island Princess from Los Angeles to New York 18 days. Upon arriving in Panama we started with a trip to old Town Panama City (see other post). Then a IMAX movie on the making of the Panama Canal. After a full day ashore, it was back to the ship and they had to get in line with other ships for our turn to enter the locks the next morning.
You don't enter the locks under your own power, tug boats guide you in, also with a special capitan that came aboard.
Once in the locks they hook up the ship to what are called. Mules with cables to pull you through from lock to lock. It was fascinating to say the least.
