We are still running on systems built for a world of horses...
But we live in a world of cars.
AI is not the enemy, outdated assignments are.
When students use AI to write essays or answer multiple-choice questions, it’s easy to say they’re cheating.
But the real issue?
The assessment itself is broken.
Here’s a better idea:
1️⃣ Ask students to generate an AI essay on a topic with intentional mistakes according to their level.
2️⃣ Then challenge them to find at least five errors or flawed arguments in the AI’s work.
3️⃣ Have them explain why those points are wrong and suggest improvements.
This flips the old model on its head.
It’s not about memorizing facts anymore, it’s about critical thinking, analysis, and creative problem-solving.
If we keep trying to catch students “cheating” with AI, we miss a powerful opportunity to teach relevant 21st-century skills.
How do you think schools could change their assignments to better use AI as a learning tool?
