As part of our Toucan Family of the Month, today we’re featuring a true cloud forest gem: the Northern Emerald Toucanet 🦜✨

With its vivid green plumage, striking bill, and expressive eyes, this charismatic little toucan is a dream subject for bird photographers.

Often cooperative and curiously, Northern Emerald Toucanet if one of the most photogenic species on the highlands in places like San Gerardo de Dota and Cinchona.

At Aratinga Tours, we support conservation with every trip. One example: Agami Island in Katira, Costa Rica—home to the world’s largest breeding colony of the rare Agami Heron (Near Threatened).

🌎 Tiny country, HUGE birding value! 🐦🔥

Costa Rica may only take up 0.03% of the Earth’s surface, but it has a very high concentration of endemic bird species (species with a limited distribution range)
🟡 4 species are found only in Costa Rica: Cabani’s Ground Sparrow, Coppery-headed Emerald, Black-cheeked Ant-Tanager and Mangrove Hummingbird

🌄 About 60 species are regional endemics, restricted to the Talamanca Mountains shared with western Panama. These include highland jewels like: Long-tailed Silky-flycatcher, Fiery-throated Hummingbird, Sulphur-winged Parakeet, Black-capped Flycatcher, Golden-browed Chlorophonia, Timberline Wren and many more…
