Did you know, while “abroad” is generally used as a term when you’re traveling in a foreign country… it also means “spreading far and wide”

ArboursAbroad was born when we did our first big trip abroad, backing in South America for six months. But since then, it has morphed into more of the second meaning…

Arbours that’s us 🕺🏽💃🏻 spreading far and wide… covering places all over the globe.

We’re excited to start sharing more on here about not just our adventures, but how you can get out and explore too.

While we’ll always encourage you to live life differently, we’re going to now be putting that saying to the test, sharing more on here that we share on the blog, travel tips to get you out there, itineraries to make travel a breeze (or as much of a breeze as it can be) and ideas of how and where to start!

Visiting Minneapolis?! You’ve got to stay at 300 Clifton 🤩

When looking for a place to stay on our recent trip to Minneapolis, one picture of this place and I was sold.

Being able to stay in a historic bed and breakfast… a place that has lived many lives, but was recently restored to how it is today… that was a no brainer.

🎩 Highlights of our stay.

🌿 A mile walk to downtown - the majority of it being through a park.

🎱 A pool table & arcade games.

🍷 W**e served daily from 2-7.

☕️ An espresso machine whipping up a great cup of joe.

🐠 A pond with fish food to feed the fish.

📖 And historic charm all throughout.

🎩 Would you stay here? I’m already feeling like we need to go back!

Wait for the last clip 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

We just wrapped up a conference in Minneapolis with and Outdoor Retailer … and one of the coolest things was getting together with other creators, talking ideas, work, and teaching each other new things.

Our new friend, Craig, from Asian Mom | White Dad taught us a hyper-lapse technique — and when we gave it a try .. let’s just say it didn’t go as well as his do.

Our vision : a walk through this beautiful room 300 Clifton while we overlay piano music that looks like I’m playing it.

The reality : this video… the first try being the last of these clips.

I think we have some work to do… but honestly all the laughing was worth it! 🙌

Come hike Maxwell Lake with me… I mean us! 😅

With Jay having the camera in his hand all the time there are way more pictures of me than him, but I promise he was there too!

Maxwell Lake Trail is a hike about an hour drive outside of Joseph and the trail gets you right into the iconic peaks of the Eagle Cap Wilderness right away.

Be warned a 10 mile drive down a really bumpy road and a 4 mile hike with the first 3 miles being switchbacks up the mountain and the last mile being straight uphill is waiting for you to get to Maxwell Lake.

We started the hike at sunrise and definitely recommend that you do too, as you’ll be able to hike up the switchbacks in mostly shade and only have sun for the last mile uphill

Be sure to bring a swimsuit and a lunch to jump in Maxwell Lake at the top before making your way back down the mountain.

I would say this is a must when visiting Joseph, but it’s truly only a must if you’re capable of doing difficult or strenuous hiking… Please do not attempt this trail without water, food, and a pretty good fitness level.

It’s not for the weak.

One Day in Aachen, Germany

We’ve visited Aachen on two different occasions, both for only a day each.

Naturally, we found ourselves getting lost beneath the towering Aachen Cathedral… but the good news is, that’s where Aachen comes to life.

Being a college town, Aachen is the perfect place to grab cheap eats from AKL Lebanese Restaurant, local beers from Rewe City, and sit on the steps on the backside of the Town Hall to enjoy people, the cathedral, and the lively city.

We stayed at two different locations in Aachen, the first place was at A&O Hostel, which is great if you’re on a super budget.. and the second at B & B Hotel Aachen — which we really enjoyed.

Both places are near the train station and just outside the main city center — which makes for a great walk in and out of town finding local coffee shops and yummy grab and go food.
