He was recommended for the honor, but it has so far not been awarded. Sgt. Braxton was in B Company, (Audie's), 1st Battalion, 15th Regiment, U.S. 3rd Infantry Division. If anyone has any information that could help. Please email me at the address on this site.

There is also a campaign at the moment to have Sgt. Braxton Pool awarded the Medal of Honor for his action in this campaign. He was killed as a result of his action in the village pictured below on Dec. 24th 1944.

The intensity of what Audie said about this little known campaign still continues. Garlin M Conner was finally awarded the Medal of Honor in 2018, for his action here 81 years ago. RIP and thank you.

Audie Murphy said it that Anzio and the Colmar Pocket, were the toughest of the 8 campaigns in 7 countries that the U.S. 3rd Infantry Division fought in WWII.

I wonder how many people in our countries, (U.S., Can. Aus. UK, NZ etc), have heard of the village of Chalampe? Or how many movies have been made about the final battles by the Allies in France?

The battle for France was over, after all the suffering, sacrfice, and death by the Allies, who landed on the beaches of Normandy on June the 6th 1944. This is where it 'ended'.
