Christmas is the most beautiful time of the year 🎄🎅 Especially in LutherCountry, the heartland of the Reformation and the region, where Christmas markets and Christmas traditions are still authentic. Did you know, that the tradition of the first public Christmas tree; the original, handmade glass Christmas tree ornaments or the traditional “Pyramid” cake origin from LutherCountry?
Christmas as we know it today wouldn't exist without Martin Luther. He wanted to emphasize the importance of Christ’s birth on December 25th, so he started a family celebration now known as Christmas. As a gift for his son, he wrote the Christmas carol “Vom Himmel hoch” (From Heaven above to earth I come…)🙏

Luther's translation of the New Testament first appeared 500 years ago in 1522, and the first edition of 3,000 copies was immediately sold out. By the end of the year, there were still 12 subsequent editions 📖.
Incidentally, Luther waived his share of the sales - he made no money from his translation.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Martin Luther 🥳
Martin Luther was born in Eisleben on 10 November 1483 as the first of nine children to his parents Hans and Margarete Luder.
A day after his birth, Luther was baptised “Martin” in the Church of St. Peter and Paul, not far from the home of his parents 😇
The exhibition “I come from here – Martin Luther and Eisleben” in Luther’s Birthplace recounts Luther’s origins and depicts life in the Middle Ages. The Luther family home has been recreated with historical furniture.

Happy Reformation Day: A holiday for Martin Luther 🙏
On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses at the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg. The reason was the sale of indulgences, which allowed Christians to buy their freedom from sins, which Luther criticized: What was a lucrative business for the church would have no effect on believers. He relied on the power of faith, trusting in the grace of God.
The controversy over his theses later led to the founding of the Protestant Church as a counter to the Roman Catholic Church.

MAGDEBURG - BASTION OF PROTESTANTISM
When Martin Luther was thirteen years old, he lived in Magdeburg for a year as a student. Twenty-six years later in 1524, the mayor asked him to come to Magdeburg again to preach and promote the Reformation. The crowds were so enormous that people peered through the windows from outside on long ladders and Luther had to repeat the sermon two days later.
Only a few days later, the Catholic mass was abolished in Magdeburg, and the majority of the congregations adopted the new Protestant services and church constitution.

LUTHER'S WITTENBERG - No other town is as closely linked to the Reformation as the Lutheran town on the river Elbe. It was here that the Reformation began.
The castle church with the famous Thesis door, the residences of Luther and Melanchthon, the city church as Luther's place of preaching and the Cranach courtyards are stone witnesses of an impressive era. The historical Reformation ensemble has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996.

"You have as much laughter as you have faith."
-Martin Luther

Martin Luther visited Schmalkalden many times in his life, a quaint little town which also marks the beginning of the Luther Trail. Most importantly, Luther came here to lead a special meeting of the Schmalkaldic League which resulted in far-reaching changes that are still relevant to church practices today.
