The bourse of Antwerp was the world's first purpose-built commodity exchange (it was founded before stocks and shares existed, so was not strictly a stock exchange).[1] Falling into disuse in the 17th century, from 1872 until 1997 the restored building housed the Antwerp Stock Exchange. After further restoration, the building is now part of an events venue that goes by the English name Antwerp Trade Fair. The Royal Exchange, London was modelled on the Antwerp Exchange.

Since we cannot go to nearby countries in red/orange zones due to Corona virus pandemic, we decided to go around this impressive city again. It is my...hmmm 🤔🤔🤔 5th time in Brugge. It's one of my fave places in Belgium. We went here 1st week of August 2020 during after the lockdown period. Brugge is a UNESCO World Heritage city, brimming with instagrammable hotspots, magnificent monuments, grand townhouses, romantic lakes, centuries old churches, etc. Such hidden spots, just waiting to be discovered...
The city has a distinctive ravishing beauty in every season, so you can visit Brugge anytime of the year ❤

The Legend of Kinderdijk

The water kept fighting back. The continued drainage caused the peat soil to keep subsiding, allowing the ground level to drop as the river water level kept rising. Then, on a stormy November night in 1421, disaster struck. The infamous Saint Elisabeth’s flood swept away the poorly maintained d***s protecting the polder, causing thousands of people to drown. Legend has it that this is where Kinderdijk, meaning Children’s D**e, got its name. After the flood, once the survivors dared to leave their houses to survey the damage, they saw a cradle bob up and down on the water, carrying the sound of a crying baby. The floating cradle was kept in balance by a cat, jumping up and down to keep the basket from sinking. The baby was saved: perhaps this is how the name Children’s D**e was born!!
