CULTURAL ASSOCIATION MECKLENBURG INSPIRES e.V. Out of love for the arts and this region. The cultural life of a region plays a crucial role in regards to the quality of life and experience it offers to both its inhabitants and its visitors. This is the case for well established initiatives such as the UNESCO world heritage sites and the European Capitals of Culture as much as for the independent art scene, which is a forerunner in giving expression to the Zeitgeist and the contemporary identity of a place. But culture, the arts and creativity facilitate also innovation and have the power to initiate processes of economic growth, i.e. by attracting more quality tourism. We love art, we have a passion for other cultures and we care about the future of our Region. In order to strengthen the profile of the “German Riviera” and to animate, diversify and internationalise the cultural life of the region working in the spirit of its sustainable development, the cultural association “Mecklenburg Inspires” has been founded in September 2010 in Bad Doberan. Its founders are local tourism entrepreneurs and art sponsors. The association has the aim to strengthen the role of arts and culture through the collaboration with international artists. The centre of all activities is the residency program “Mecklenburg Inspires”. Artists from all over the world, from various disciplines and in different phases of their professional development come to live and work in the Region, get to know its people and artists, interact or collaborate with them in the context of specific projects, and exhibit their work.

VISION
The project of cross-sector support of the arts and culture envisions a future in which the presence and work of international artists in collaboration with local inhabitants and artists will animate the Region and open up new horizons and perspectives. On the interface between arts/culture and tourism new professional opportunities, services and products will develop. For the art world, the region will become an important point of reference for artistic development and cooperation. This mix of local and international creativity will enhance the attractiveness of the region as much as its quality of life and attract increasingly artists, culturally interested tourists and new inhabitants.

MISSION
In order to transform this vision into reality, the cultural association focuses on the following activities:
• To support the development and professionalisation of artists from all over the world through the residency program, the “Mecklenburg Inspires” network and its connected activities.
• To foster intercultural dialogue, tolerance and openness amongst the inhabitants of the region through the presence of international artists and their experimental artistic expressions.
• To make a contribution to the region’s cultural animation and its sustainable tourism development through the activities of the association, the residency program and local partnerships with schools, associations and institutions.
• To create new and innovative cross-sector products and services on the interface between art and tourism on the basis of the residency program, in order to support the regional tourism economy’s positive development, in quality rather than in quantity.
