Danish Heritage Tours

Danish Heritage Tours Danish Heritage Tours is a Danish based tour operator arranging and performing genealogy tours in Denmark.

My unique concept is to provide individual and tailor-made tours primarily for Americans, Canadians, Australians and New Zealanders having Danish ancestors. I specialize in tours customized just for you and your group. You will see the specific places in Denmark, where your ancestors lived. Having an MA in History and many years experience as an archivist and a genealogist, I will help finding the

exact places. The house, where Great Grandfather grew up and the school he went to. The church, where he and Great Grandmother were married and the cemetery, where the names of your relatives can be found. During the trip by car or van, I will also show you sights of interest and tourist attractions where relevant. Included in my tours is my service, accommodation in 3* and 4* hotels or inns, all meals, if relevant also insight visits in museums or attractions, and if needed transfer airport/hotel. A trip usually last 2 - 5 days but this will depend on your wishes and budget.

So what do you do when you are unable to participate in the world's largest genealogy and family history convention?
Well, you ask your good friend and his daughter to represent you. I am truly blessed to be able to call Dane Held and Catherina Gailey friends.
Thank you for representing my business at Rootstech 2026 from the bottom of my ❤️

I asked Debbie - who with her family has been on two tours with me last year - to make a little testimonial video to be used for the upcoming Rootstech 2026 conference... and then she sends me this!
A beautiful account of her family's trips to Denmark, made by herself and her son, Michael.
Thank you so much, Debbie, and let this be an inspiration to others :)

First tour of the year! Despite the cold, the snow and the occational fog, I had the great pleasure of spending three days with this lovely couple and their son from Minnesota. Together we explored churches, villages, towns, a 600-year old watermill, and surprisingly enough a beautiful beach... by the way, who won the skipping competition?

In my family, we have a tradition of leaving a bowl of rice porridge and beer in the attic for the house "nisse" as an expexted reward for his/her house chores during the year. If this does not happen, it is believed to anger the nisse, who will retaliate and tease or even cause accidents in the house over the next year. In return, the nisse leaves presents for the children.
Merry Christmas, everybody 🎅☃️❄️❤️

Last week I spent 4 days with this lovely couple from Wisconsin. They and their family did a 1-day trip with me in June. Now they were back to explore their ancestral home country. We visited local archives, churches, family homes, distant relatives, an open-air museum, and a couple of Thomas Dambo trolls.

Today, I think I made an actual difference 😊
During my research for a tour in May, I posted a message on a genealogy site looking for church records for an ancestor of one of my guests...
A couple of weeks after, someone found my post looking for that same ancestor. However, this new person and my guest - eventhough they are cousins - did not know each other... until today... and they both live in Seattle 😀

Anyway, I just wanted to share this and wish you a nice weekend.

PS The picture is the summerhouse my wife and I bought earlier this year... just because a post looks better with a picture.

So today I did a tour with this lovely couple, Betsy and Todd from San Francisco. Betsy's great great great grandparents were Peder Hansen and Eva Cathrine Henningsdatter.
They lived in this house and the guy in the middle is the current owner, Bjarne. He was so kind and let us see his beautiful home, where some parts were still original from over 200 years ago. A perfect day, even the weather 🌞

Yesterday I visited the Funen Village in Odense, which has been a regular stop on many of our tours. This open-air museum illustrates life on the island of Funen (Fyn) in the 1800s. During this time, 9 out of 10 people lived in villages in the country. Life expectancy is about 45 years, but rising due to improved healthcare, ultimately producing a population surplus which again led to immigration.
