Danish Heritage Tours is a Danish based tour operator arranging and performing genealogy tours in Denmark.

My unique concept is to provide individual and tailor-made tours primarily for Americans, Canadians, Australians and New Zealanders having Danish ancestors. I specialize in tours customized just for you and your group. You will see the specific places in Denmark, where your ancestors lived. Having an MA in History and many years experience as an archivist and a genealogist, I will help finding the exact places. The house, where Great Grandfather grew up and the school he went to. The church, where he and Great Grandmother were married and the cemetery, where the names of your relatives can be found. During the trip by car or van, I will also show you sights of interest and tourist attractions where relevant. Included in my tours is my service, accommodation in 3* and 4* hotels or inns, all meals, if relevant also insight visits in museums or attractions, and if needed transfer airport/hotel. A trip usually last 2 - 5 days but this will depend on your wishes and budget.

Summer is ending and autumn is on its way. Leaves are changing colour and falling off the trees. This is a picture I took today in the street where I live in Copenhagen.
The tourist season is also ending, an extremely busy one for me. But it means that now I can start planning next year's heritage tours. I did 6 tours in 2026, and I already have 7 planned for 2027. Maybe there will be more.
I really look forward to the tours, meeting a lot of new people and visiting a lot of interesting places all over Denmark 🇩🇰

Yet another exciting tour to beautiful areas of Denmark. This time with a lovely family from Washington, visiting both Odsherred (NW Zealand), Sejerø (only accessible by ferry) and Fyn (Funen).
Churches, villages, nice weather, beaches, a ferry, and a lighthouse. The frikadeller were a big succes, as was the traditional Danish lunch at an old inn in Odense. I also had to buy an extra pack of pålægschokolade (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P%C3%A5l%C3%A6gschokolade).

For the upcoming heritage tour starting on Sunday, I had the idea of making a homemade dinner for the first evening. So, I'm making "frikadeller", and with three teenage boys in the family coming from Utah, I need a lot of them 🫨
Not sure if they will be as good and tasty as my mom's, but they will certainly be a unique and authentic experience.

June 23 2026 - Saint John's Eve (Sankthansaften) Picture taken yesterday evening at the Copenhagen lake Sortdamssøen in Østerbro in Copenhagen where I live.
At dusk large bonfires are lit all over the country, typically accompanied by communal singing of Midsommervisen by Holger Drachmann. Atop each bonfire often an effigy of a witch is placed (harking back to the days of witch trials, when real women were burned at the stake).
Traditionally, the bonfires were lit to fend off witches, but today - when the witch effigy catches fire - she is said to be "flying away to Brocken" (Danish: "Bloksbjerg"), which can be interpreted as helping the witch on her way.

Just finished a cozy 4-day heritage tour with a lovely couple from Seattle. First a visit to relevant houses at the open-air museum in Lyngby, a day in the Ikast-Herning area, and a day in south Schleswig where their respective families are from: villages, towns, churches, a heath area, and a local historical archive.

First tour of the year! Despite the cold, the snow and the occational fog, I had the great pleasure of spending three days with this lovely couple and their son from Minnesota. Together we explored churches, villages, towns, a 600-year old watermill, and surprisingly enough a beautiful beach... by the way, who won the skipping competition?

In my family, we have a tradition of leaving a bowl of rice porridge and b**r in the attic for the house "nisse" as an expexted reward for his/her house chores during the year. If this does not happen, it is believed to anger the nisse, who will retaliate and tease or even cause accidents in the house over the next year. In return, the nisse leaves presents for the children.
