Today I have for you some small facts about money and how to do not overpay in Dominican Republic 💵
For those who want to pay by card – in the store or supermarket – there is no problem with that, however you have to be prepared that cashier will ask you for an ID.
Only pesos can be withdrawn at ATM. If you have an account in euros or dollars and you want to get your currency, then the best option for you is to go to the bank (for example Reservas) with a passport and get the money there. In that case the commission is much smaller and you can easily take larger amount. At ATMs in Dominicus, there is a limit of 2000 pesos (40 euros) that can be withdrawn at once and a commission of 2-3 euros from this amount.
Important for those who want to pay in a restaurant or a local hotel – if you say that you pay by card, they add 18% tax. Usually it is written in the fine print in the menu. The same rule applies to hotels. On booking.com you can find low prices, but they are given without 18% tax. Some additional amount can also be added for cleaning. Always read carefully.
WIFI info
There is free Wifi at the airport in Punta Cana. You do not even have to register to get access. Just connect and use as much as you want.
I do not know how it looks like in Punta Cana or Bavaro, but in Bayahibe and Dominicus, in most of cafes and bars Wifi is for free. Also in the area of Bayahibe and Dominicus it is easier to get a sim card with a local phone number on which you can buy a mobile Internet.
