🤩 We’ve visited these mountain ranges many times, and it’s completely different every time! Just imagine— to get here, we took the Pan-American Highway, which runs just behind those “twin volcanoes” in the distance: the Ilinizas.
🚙 We left the Pan-American and headed west, passing through towns like Toacazo and Isinliví, after crossing the highest point of that road at 4,000 meters (13,120 ft). We then reached the Grand Toachi River Canyon, which was formed hundreds of years ago by Quilotoa Volcano, located to the south.
🏞 This river may seem small at first, but as it flows northwest, it becomes much larger and eventually joins the Blanco River on its way to the Pacific Ocean.
🌳 The canyon lies between two mountain ranges we’ve already crossed: Guangaje and the Chugchilán Range—where we are now with our friend who fell in love with this place.
👉👉 And guess what? We’re visiting an ancestral site with astronomical alignments to the Ilinizas, Sun, Moon, and other archaeological spots. We're now reaching the most western peaks of Cotopaxi Province—so just imagine how magical the sunsets and sunrises are here!
