Las Corrientes Marinas son el motor del Océano y dependiendo de sus características (temperatura, salinidad, entre otras) diferentes especies habitan y se mueven con ellas. En Galápagos tenemos 3 corrientes marinas principales: Humbolt, Corriente de Panamá y Comwell, y son las responsables de la diversidad marina que podemos encontrar en las Islas Encantadas.
Lamentablemente estas corrientes tambien traen consigo grandes cantidades de basura que ha sido desechada en el mar, compartiendo este espacio con las especies marinas que habitan en ellas. Pero de la misma manera, esta basura puede quedar estancada en playas, bahías, ensenadas, etc.
Por todo lo mencionado anteriormente, es muy importante realizar la limpieza costera, puesto a que todos los animales que viven en este entorno pueden confundir la basura y alimentarse de esta o quedar enredados.

Marine Currents are the motors Ocean and, according to their characteristics (mostly temperature and salinity) species live and move with them. In Galapagos we have 3 main marine currents: Humbolt, Panama Current and Comwell, and they are responsible for the marine diversity that we can find in the Enchanted Islands.
Unfortunately these currents also bring with them large amounts of garbage that have been disposed in the sea, sharing this space with the marine species. Also, this garbage can get stuck in beaches, bays, inlets, etc.
That’s the reason why it is very important to carry out coastal cleaning, because all the animals that live in this environment can confuse the garbage and feed it or get hurt.
