๐๏ธ Pessimistic literature
Yes, it existed in Ancient Egypt.
Not every ancient Egyptian text was about kings, victories, or the afterlife.
Some preserved loneliness, disappointment, fear, hope, questions, grief, trust... and even ranting.
And somehow...
They still sound like us.
Maybe some things never really change.
These are some of my favorite lines from the second poem of *"The Man Who Was Weary of Life"*, also known as *"A Dispute Between a Man and His Ba"*.
๐ Quoted from *"The Literature of Ancient Egypt"* by William Kelly Simpson.
๐ฌ Tell me... which quote touched you the most?
For me, it has to be:
"Whom can I trust today?
I am laden down with sorrow, and there is none to comfort me."
That's what I adore about
ancient Egyptian literary works.. They have a beautiful way of humanizing the people behind the monuments.
They remind us that beneath the crowns, temples, and hieroglyphs... they were human too.
