Details of diorite statue of King «Khafra» and God Horus.
4th Dynasty, Old Kingdom.
H.: 168 cm
From the Valley Temple of King «Khafra» at Giza, 1860.
This perfectly modeled and well-polished life-size statue depicts King «Khafra», the builder of the second pyramid at Giza and son of King «Khufu». He's portrayed seating on a cubic throne flanked by lion heads. The two sides of the throne are decorated with the Sema-Tawy, symbol of the unity of two lands, Upper and Lower Egypt.
King «Khafra» wears here the headdress (Nemes) with folds in the lower part while it's flat in the upper part, with the Royal Cobra on his forehead. Attached to his chin is an artificial ceremonial sacred beard. He is protected by the god Horus, whos is represented as a falcon in his back.
The skills of the sculptor succeeded in turning a work of complex ideological content into a Masterpiece.
Just imagine you enter the room and you see this statue in front of you like he's seeing you and waiting for you . . Breathtaking Moment.
