The World's Oldest Prosthetic is in Cairo! 😳🦶

This is NOT just a piece of leather. This is the Greville Chester Great Toe, the oldest functional prosthetic limb in human history.

📍 Where: Thebes (Luxor), Egypt - Now in the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC), Cairo
📅 When: Around 950 - 710 BC (almost 3,000 years ago!)

The story:
A woman from Thebes, around 50-60 years old, lost her big toe due to amputation. To help her walk normally and wear the traditional Egyptian sandals, Ancient Egyptian doctors created this incredibly advanced prosthetic toe from wood, leather, and textile, laced together with thread.

Archaeologists found it STILL attached to her foot in her tomb, with clear signs of wear - which means she actually used it and it WORKED. Modern tests showed a person can walk perfectly with it.

This proves that Ancient Egyptian medicine was thousands of years ahead of its time. They didn't just mummify, they healed the living.

I took this photo yesterday in Dahshur at sunset.

In one frame:
Palm tree with fresh dates,
The Bent Pyramid (4600 years old - the first attempt to build a true pyramid),
And the Black Pyramid in the back.

This is the real Egypt that most tourists never see. It's only 40 minutes from Cairo, but it feels like going back in time.

Everyone goes to Giza, but the story of the pyramids actually STARTED here in Dahshur.

This 500-year-old door still guards Old Cairo!

This is the door of Wikala Al-Ghuri, built by Sultan Qansuh Al-Ghuri in 1505, the last Mamluk Sultan.

1. Inlaid with real ivory, mother-of-pearl and ebony
2. The huge iron nails were for defense, not decoration
3. The massive wooden lock is still working today

Standing in front of 4300 years of history 😳

This is the Tomb of Kagemni in Saqqara, Egypt.

Kagemni was the Vizier to King Teti during the 6th Dynasty, around 2320 BC.
He was basically the "Prime Minister" of Ancient Egypt.

The most famous part of his tomb is this "False Door".
Ancient Egyptians believed the spirit of the dead would use it to pass between the world of the living and the afterlife to receive offerings.
