Among the little-known women of ancient Egypt is Princess Tentamun, a royal figure who lived near the end of the New Kingdom. Historians believe she was connected to Pharaoh Ramses IX, although surviving evidence about her life is extremely limited.

Her name translates as “Belonging to Amun,” reflecting the importance of the chief deity worshipped in Thebes. Like other women of the royal household, she may have participated in temple traditions and court ceremonies.

Today, Tentamun remains something of a mystery. Archaeologists have linked several burials and funerary objects to women bearing her name, but because “Tentamun” was used by multiple royal family members, her true resting place has never been identified with certainty.
