She ruled Egypt as Pharaoh. 👑

Hatshepsut was one of the very few women to rule ancient Egypt as king — for about 20 years, around 1479–1458 BC. Her statues show her with the royal false beard, she sent a famous trading expedition to the Land of Punt, and she built this masterpiece into the cliffs of Luxor's West Bank: Djeser-Djeseru, the "Holy of Holies".

Hatshepsut è stata una delle pochissime donne a governare l'antico Egitto con il titolo di re, per circa vent'anni (tra il 1479 e il 1458 a.C.). Le sue statue la raffigurano persino con la classica barba posticcia regale; durante il suo regno guidò una celebre spedizione commerciale verso la terra di Punt e fece scolpire questo capolavoro direttamente nella roccia della riva ovest di Luxor: Djeser-Djeseru, il «Santo dei Santi».

Around 4,700 years ago, the architect Imhotep designed a six-step stone pyramid for King Djoser at Saqqara — the ancestor of every pyramid that followed.

Saqqara is a short drive from Giza, so it's easy to combine with Memphis and the Giza Plateau in a single day.
