We decided at 10pm last night to head down to Campello front to get an ice cream and sit on the beach to watch the fabulous fireworks marking the end of the fiesta of the Virgin Del Carmen.
The Virgin del Carmen is the patron saint of fishermen, a belief that can be traced back to the Old Testament, and while this was the end of five days worth of celebrations, they save the absolute best until last. And every year these fireworks get better than better. Usually set off from “Rio seco” (dry river) on the edge of the town, this year they were released from the middle of the beach, with some being set off from out at sea. A true spectacle and worth seeing if you’re in Campello next July!
