Anyone planning a total solar eclipse trip yet in Spain?

I'll be going to Burgos in 2026. There's over two years to think about it and plan!

Spain will see total solar eclipses in 2026 and 2027, followed by an annular solar eclipse in 2028.

This famous bull can be seen along many roadsides in Spain. Do you know its story?

Originally it was a brilliant marketing strategy of the Osborne Bodegas, makers of sherry and brandy based in El Puerto de Santa María. Over much of Spain they installed colossal billboards cut in the shape of the bull with the word Osborne emblazoned in red letters across its body.

In 1988, the national legislature passed sweeping legislation including a ban on all roadside billboards in rural areas. The Spanish people realized the massive bulls would be removed from the landscape! In 1997, the Spanish Supreme Court ruled the bulls were a cultural treasure and a harmonious part of the landscape. The bulls were allowed to stay as long as the brand name was removed. Osborne painted over the words, and around 90 bulls still stand along the roadsides of Spain.
