Named by Galileo in 1619 at the northern hemisphere as aurora borealis (or northern lights) in honor of the Roman dawn goddess "Aurora" and the Greek name for the northern wind "Boreas".
You can see them from places like Alaska (Fairbanks where we saw them), Norway or Canada.
Its southern counterpart is the aurora australis (or southern lights) and can be seen from countries like Australia, New Zealand, Argentina or Chile.
