PRESENTACIÓN
Coincidiendo con el Día Mundial de la Arquitectura y con el Día del Hábitat, celebrados en todo el mundo en cada primer lunes de octubre, se celebrará este año la I Semana de la Arquitectura de Bilbao. La Semana de la Arquitectura de Bilbao nace para acercar la arquitectura y el urbanismo al público general. Con ello se quiere informar y concienciar a la ciudadanía sobre los retos a
mbientales y sociales del hábitat humano más próximo: nuestra ciudad. Para convertirse en un estimulador y difusor social huirá del lenguaje opaco y tecnicista tras el que se esconden los foros profesionales. La primera edición de esta semana tendrá como tema aglutinante el impacto del turismo en la ciudad. Tras más de dos décadas en las que los esfuerzos públicos han ido dirigidos a potenciar la actividad turística en nuestra ciudad, proponemos parar y reflexionar sobre las luces y sombras que estas políticas han traído y los retos que están por llegar. Temas como la transformación de la ciudad en un producto de consumo, la creación y exportación de una imagen de ciudad o su desigual impacto en los diferentes barrios serán puntos centrales de la reflexión que proponemos. Esto se llevará a cabo a través de varias actividades que estarán también abiertas al disfrute y al aprendizaje de la ciudad. Esta primera edición ha sido patrocinada por el Ayuntamiento de Bilbao a través de su concurso Ideiak Martxan. PRESENTATION
Dovetailing with United Nations´s World Habitat Day and the World Architecture Day, which are celebrated yearly all around the world on first Monday of October, this year the city of Bilbao will be celebrating its I Architecture Week. Bilbao Architecture Week (BAW) aims to raise awareness of the architectural environment amongst its inhabitants and the broader public, the challenges and opportunities that our urban environment pose on our community. Bilbao Architecture Week will be focussed on reaching to the broader public and so it will not be an academic or professional forum, although it will integrate experts to enrich its debate. During the last two decades the local public authorities have focussed their efforts on promoting Bilbao as a touristic city. BAW 2016 will invite the general public and the policy makers to reflect on the downsides that this policies have brought and the challenges that the local population will have to face in the future. Topics such as the transformation of the human habitat in a product of consumption, the creation of an attractive image of the city or the unequal impact that tourism has on the different neighbourhoods, will be material for analysis during BAW 2016. Together with this, the activities organised during the week will enable its participants to enjoy the urban environment and learn about it. This first edition of Bilbao Architecture Week has been generously sponsored by Bilbao Town Council through its programme Ideiak Martxan.
