12 individual rooms, all with their own personality, most f&b locally sourced from the orchard plus kitchen garden.

And you know what? In the owners association (förening in Swedish) there are close to 50 other inns, manors, castles and boutique hotels as authentic, friendly and welcoming as Villa Gransholm. All with their own personality and story!

All Countryside hotels are privately owned, in lush surroundings, as far from city hotel chains as you could possibly get.

Sanna island and village with the same name is located in Træna Municipality in Nordland county, Norway.

The island has five mountaintops, the highest is the 338-metre Trænstaven.

The Traena Music Festival is held here each year - and that’s quite amazing knowing The island only has three (3!) permanent residents.

These pictures cover half of the third day of this incredibly rich expedition ride.

Selvær is how far west you can get on the Helgeland coast. The island of Selvæer has three dozen inhabitants and is located in Træna municipality - a hair’s breadth north of the Arctic Circle.

It has a small shop, a museum and as you can see the cutest welcome committee of lambs ever seen!

The Rauma railway provides some fantastic views of the Rauma Valley; Trollveggen and Kylling bridge.

⁠The Svalbard Line is an all inclusive summer cruise operated by . This is part 1 of my cruise.
🇳🇴
Our quite small expedition ship was retracing historic pioneer routes from Norway mainland, via the fjords, all the way up North, well above the polar circle. All very different from all I have previously seen and done - and sorry for repeating myself - brutally beutiful.
🇳🇴
Finally, far above Tromsø in northern Norway, The Svalbard line crosses over to the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard.
🇳🇴
Onboard, the experience is rustique and authentic Norwegian. Food and beverage sources from Skandinavia as much as possible, beverages are included.
🇳🇴
It’s a kind of understated luxury in total lack of bling-bling, and why would there be? You don’t need artifical effects when being surrounded by fjords, white capped mountains and valleys in bloom.

I did this North bound trip trip in June, In cooperation with, and invited by, Hurtigruten.
🇳🇴
The 8-day northbound route includes several port stops to small and pretty villages. with excursions as well as demanding walks, for those who preferred hiking.
🇳🇴
This was our schedule:
Day 1: Bergen – I arrived early and managed to do a site inspection of all the cabins and suites. The latter are - as on many similar expedition cruisers - very popular, so if you want to upgrade during the cruise, act on it quickly. Myself, I had a outside cabin (lugar in Norwegian) but no excesses.

Day 2: Åndalsnes – An alpine village known for fjord views and the nearby scenic rail route The Golden Train, with a history hiding the Norwegian gold treasure during world war II. And, of course, fantastic views of the Rauma Valley; Trollbeggen and Kylling bridge.

Day 3: Træna – One of Norway’s oldest fishing communities, located right on the edge of the Arctic Circle.
🇳🇴
Day 4: Reine – A picture perfect village in the Lofoten Islands.
🇳🇴
