The Svalbard Line is an all inclusive summer cruise operated by . This is part 1 of my cruise.

Our quite small expedition ship was retracing historic pioneer routes from Norway mainland, via the fjords, all the way up North, well above the polar circle. All very different from all I have previously seen and done - and sorry for repeating myself - brutally beutiful.

Finally, far above Tromsø in northern Norway, The Svalbard line crosses over to the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard.

Onboard, the experience is rustique and authentic Norwegian. Food and beverage sources from Skandinavia as much as possible, beverages are included.

It’s a kind of understated luxury in total lack of bling-bling, and why would there be? You don’t need artifical effects when being surrounded by fjords, white capped mountains and valleys in bloom.

I did this North bound trip trip in June, In cooperation with, and invited by, Hurtigruten.

The 8-day northbound route includes several port stops to small and pretty villages. with excursions as well as demanding walks, for those who preferred hiking.

This was our schedule:
Day 1: Bergen – I arrived early and managed to do a site inspection of all the cabins and suites. The latter are - as on many similar expedition cruisers - very popular, so if you want to upgrade during the cruise, act on it quickly. Myself, I had a outside cabin (lugar in Norwegian) but no excesses.
Day 2: Åndalsnes – An alpine village known for fjord views and the nearby scenic rail route The Golden Train, with a history hiding the Norwegian gold treasure during world war II. And, of course, fantastic views of the Rauma Valley; Trollbeggen and Kylling bridge.

Day 3: Træna – One of Norway’s oldest fishing communities, located right on the edge of the Arctic Circle.

Day 4: Reine – A picture perfect village in the Lofoten Islands.
