The Camiño dos Faros (The Lighthouse Way) is a 200-km coastal walk in northern Galicia, starting in the seaside town of Malpica and ending in mythical Cape Finisterre. This stunning trail is named after the many impressive lighthouses it passes along the way, built to safeguard mariners as they sailed near the infamous Costa da Morte (Coast of Death). Dunes, cliffs, forests, estuaries, ancient landmarks, fishing villages –  this diverse coastline is one of the most unspoilt in all of Europe. To walk it is to gain a true insight into traditional Galician life.

San Xoán in Galicia has as many traditions as there are places that celebrate it. In some coastal areas, swimming in the sea is common. For example, women hoping to get pregnant choose this date to jump nine waves at A Lanzada beach. In others, such as Pico Sacro in Boqueixón or Finisterre, rituals of Celtic origin are performed to light fires.
Other traditions spread throughout the community relate to two of the basic ingredients of Galician festivities: food and drink. The queimada (fire of the queimada) is one of the most popular activities at gatherings of friends who take over farms and land that night. Beyond the celebration of drinking, its celebration has a ritual purpose. It also serves to ward off witches and provide protection from evil spirits
