One of my favourite accessible spots on the island 👇🏼

Montaña Bermeja near Playa Blanca

Tucked away in the south of the island, Montaña Bermeja is one of Lanzarote's many volcanic formations. Standing at around 160 metres (525 feet) above sea level, it’s a dormant volcano formed by a lava eruption millions of years ago.

It’s an absolutely stunning spot that perfectly blends volcanic landscapes, serene waters, and vibrant red hills. The breathtaking reflection in the nearby lagoon adds an almost magical touch to this iconic location. 🌋

Accessibility:

While the landscape around Montaña Bermeja can be rugged and uneven, the surrounding paths and areas are accessible to people with varying mobility levels and offer scenic views. Do keep in mind that the terrain near the lagoon may be tricky for wheelchair users, but there are nearby spots with better access for a relaxed visit.

Perfect for:

Nature lovers who enjoy scenic walks, photography, and a peaceful escape from the busier tourist areas of Lanzarote. The nearby town of Playa Blanca also has plenty to offer in terms of things to do, see, and taste.

I often bring guests here who would never have imagined experiencing something like this. As you can see, Lanzarote’s natural beauty is always full of surprises. 🙌🏼

Previous visitors to Lanzarote have been worrying about me here on my own during the winter.
So I thought that I would post the news that daytime temperatures are expected to drop tomorrow down to 21 degrees and the sun disappear behind the clouds for some of the day 🫣😟

I just want U to all know that I will be working Tuesday and Wednesday and will be with clients so I should be ok 🙏🏿

I have a day off today so it will give me plenty of time to prepare and adjust to the changes.

Thanks for all of your messages of concern but u realise it is simply a fact of our winter here on the magic island 🤷🏿🫶🏿

An accessible journey through the lava fields

One of the most breathtaking places to visit on Lanzarote is Timanfaya National Park, home to dramatic lava fields, geothermal activity, and the famous Montañas del Fuego (Fire Mountains).

Over the years, it has become more accessible than ever, allowing everyone to experience its beauty, regardless of mobility. There are smooth, even paths that are ideal for those with mobility challenges, offering stunning views of the park’s rugged volcanic landscape without the need to tackle rough terrain.

The boardwalks ensure both safety and comfort, with incredible vistas at every turn.

As you explore the park, you’ll come across lava fields formed millions of years ago, ancient craters, and a surreal landscape that feels as if you’ve stepped onto another planet. The geothermal heat radiating from the ground is a truly awe-inspiring experience, and there are even demonstrations showcasing the immense energy still bubbling beneath the surface.

Make sure to bring your camera—my team and I will take care of the rest. 🌋

P.S. Fun fact: Last year, Hayley, one of our LanzAbility holiday guests, became the first person in a power wheelchair to join the famous Luna Tour through Timanfaya—thanks to the newly installed power wheelchair-accessible official tour buses. This even made the press! Link in the comments.

I’m not saying travel is the cure for everything…

…but it definitely helps!

Personal Growth: It builds resilience, confidence, and adaptability by pushing you out of your comfort zone.
Stress Relief: A change of scenery can help reduce stress and improve mental well-being.
Stronger Relationships: Shared travel experiences can deepen connections with loved ones.
Creativity: New places and experiences inspire fresh ideas and perspectives.
Education: Travelling offers hands-on learning that deepens your knowledge of history, culture, and the world.
Memories: Travel creates lasting memories and enriching stories to share.

In short, there’s really no reason not to travel. And thanks to our amazing team at LanzAbility , most disabilities aren’t a barrier anymore either.

We can’t wait to welcome you on our island! 🏝️♿️

Not exactly the kind of vehicle you'd consider accessible, is it? 😅

For people with disabilities, the biggest concern when travelling is the journey itself—getting from A to B on public transport.

Some vehicles simply don't have accessible options. Others might be accessible, but not to the right standard, leaving passengers feeling uncomfortable or insecure. And then there are those that aren't even available, forcing you to rely on private adapted transport companies—and I've seen some that don't quite hit the mark.

To ensure our holiday guests in Lanzarote don't have to worry about any of this, we provide our own wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAVs), offering the safety, comfort, and space needed to get you where you need to go.

We even have adapted 4x4s for reaching the more remote areas of the island where official buses can’t go.

All of this to ensure your holiday experience is as smooth and enjoyable as possible. 🏝️

P.S. Have you ever had a bad experience with adapted transport?

Children laugh an average of 300 times a day when they’re six years old, while adults only manage between 15 and 100 times.

It’s no secret that kids are absolute masters at enjoying the moment and laughing with others. But as we grow older, we start worrying about the past or the future, and we even tend to focus on the negatives of the present, which stops us from truly enjoying ourselves.

Do you know what made me think of this post? My holiday guests in Lanzarote.

On our adapted tours and accessible group activities, like wine tasting or exploring the island together, I often hear people say, “Jesus, it’s been ages since I last laughed this hard!”

Although I occasionally wonder why they call me Jesus instead of David, the point is: it often takes special occasions with others to help people fully relax and stop taking life too seriously.

Now, I wish I could help you bring more laughter into your daily life. Unfortunately, my bad jokes only seem to work here on the island. But what I can do is invite you to stay in Lanzarote for a few days and create the space for you to enjoy quality time with your loved ones and people from all around the world.

Bad jokes included.

P.S. And, of course, I joke about everyone, no matter their disability—anything less would be discriminatory. Ask Isaac Harvey MBE! 🤷🏼‍♂️😁

Don't just add "travel more" to your bucket list for 2025—make it a reality!

Choose a destination that meets your needs (accessibility) and offers everything you desire (activities, nature, climate, people, food, etc.) to create a holiday you'll treasure forever.

I can think of at least one place that won’t disappoint: Lanzarote.

🪂 Countless accessible activities and once-in-a-lifetime experiences

What an accessible boat ride in Lanzarote is really about

For quite some time now, we’ve been collaborating with the only (power) wheelchair-accessible boat skipper in Lanzarote, enabling wheelchair users to board comfortably without having to leave their wheelchair.

Since then, we’ve organised several boat trips along the coast of Lanzarote and to the nearby Isla de Lobos. As you may know, our guests come with diverse abilities—some are visually impaired or totally blind, others use wheelchairs, and some may have autism or Down syndrome.

Beyond simply making the experience accessible to everyone, regardless of their (dis)abilities, our goal is to convey the true essence of what a boat ride is all about.

With the warm sun on your skin, the gentle sway of the boat beneath your feet, and the endless blue of the Atlantic stretching before you, it’s more than just ticking another activity off your holiday itinerary.

As clichéd as it might sound, it’s about savouring the moment.

It’s about slowing down, closing your eyes, and taking deep breaths as you tune into the rhythm of the waves.

It’s something you don’t often get the chance to do in everyday life.

So, go on—bloody enjoy it already! 😎

Have you ever been on a boat trip before?

My team and I won the International Business of the Year award from The Trusted Business Community Association —for the third year in a row! 🏆

I personally also received the Service Standard Award Gold, awarded to me by the members of the TTBCA for my service to the association. Another incredible achievement.

Both recognitions are a huge testament to the success and impact that LanzAbility is having. However, I’m certainly not taking all the credit. Without my amazing team, our fantastic collaborators, and our ever-growing community, LanzAbility wouldn’t be anywhere near what it is today.

Quite literally, can you imagine a holiday provider for people with disabilities being a one-man show? 😅

Once again, a heartfelt THANK YOU for making all this possible! Let’s continue to grow together in 2025. 💪🏻

P.S. I celebrated this milestone with a walk along the beach—my absolute happy place.

Now that Christmas is over, there’s only one thing left to do 👇🏼

BOOK A HOLIDAY

Like most big experiences in life, a holiday takes a bit of planning and organisation: your availability and annual leave, finding flights at reasonable times and prices, choosing a destination, ensuring accessibility, organising carers and medication, accessible activities, mobility equipment… and let’s not forget: who’s going to feed the cat while you’re away?

That’s where Paula from World Accessible Holidays and my team at LanzAbility come in.

While we can’t help with the cat-sitting, Paula will find you the best accessible flights, and my team and I will handle the rest.

We’ll make sure your entire trip is fully accessible, including:

🚐 Adapted transfers
🏨 Accessible accommodation in Lanzarote’s most inclusive areas, with nearby accessible bars, shops, beaches, and more
🦼‍ Mobility equipment
🫂 Bilingual, qualified, and experienced carers and chaperones

And the best bit? We offer countless unique adapted activities, including island tours, accessible boat trips, horse riding, wine tasting, walks through lava fields, honeybee visits, and even saltworks tours.

Some activities are completely exclusive to LanzAbility, like adapted paragliding, scuba diving, or kayak surfing.

👉🏼 Visit our website and get in touch to plan your unique accessible holiday for 2025—you absolutely deserve it.

I’ve been nominated for the International Business of the Year award by The Trusted Business Community Association !

Having won this award in both 2022 and 2023, I feel incredibly grateful to be in the running again for 2024. Let’s see if we can make it a hat-trick and win for a third consecutive year! 🎩

But in all seriousness, I’m truly honoured to be nominated again. LanzAbility is my proudest “business baby” because I know it has the potential to make a huge positive difference in so many lives. While I can’t change the whole world, I’m committed to making an impact with the resources I have.

A massive thank you to all our wonderful holiday guests with disabilities who have trusted us to provide their adapted holiday of a lifetime here on beautiful Lanzarote. 🏝️

And a heartfelt thank you to my incredible team and every single person who has supported our mission so far—whether by liking, commenting, sharing, spreading the word, or nominating us. Your support means everything.

👉🏼 If you’d like to help us continue making holidays in Lanzarote accessible for everyone, please send a quick WhatsApp message to The Trusted Business Community Association at +44 7507258671 with your vote for LanzAbility or Crazy DAVID.

It’ll only take a moment of your time, but it would mean the world to us.

Thank you so much for your support! 🙏🏼
