We are delighted to report that a further three White-tailed Eagle chicks have successfully fledged from nests in Southern England this summer. The eaglets were reared by White-tailed Eagles released on the Isle of Wight as part of the project we run in partnership with Forestry England.

It is encouraging that five pairs of eagles are now established in Southern England. This summer two of these pairs raised young with one chick fledging from a nest in Dorset and two chicks in Sussex.

The two chicks (GE36 and GE37) from the nest in Sussex are both males. They are offspring of G405 and G471, who have bred every year since 2023, having been released on the Isle of Wight in 2020.

A single male chick (GE38) fledged from the Dorset nest. This is the second successful breeding attempt for parent birds G463 and G466, and made more remarkable by the fact that the male adult bird has only one leg after it lost this five years ago.

This summer we released a further five young White-tailed Eagles on the Isle of Wight, along with six at Exmoor National Park in partnership with Exmoor National Park Authority.

The Importance of Mediterranean Coastal Wetlands

I often speak and write about the importance of Mediterranean coastal wetlands, not only for resident species or breeding birds, but also for passage migrant birds that use the migration flyway that follows the east coast of Spain right the way down to the Straits of Gibraltar.

Their value as feeding grounds, roosting spots and a place of refuge for millions of birds that pass between Europe and Africa twice per year, every year is worthy of a constant awareness. It's often said that an image is worth a thousand words. With that in mind, I'd love for us to take a few minutes to enjoy the video below, and to relive a few peaceful moments at one such wetland one evening last week. Above all, to appreciate the thousands of Swallows and Martins that are feeding up before continuing their epic voyage to southern Africa...

El sábado 22 a las 08:30h, la Fundación Migres colabora en la actividad que organiza el Parque Natural del Marjal de Pego-Oliva.

Se dará a conocer el proyecto de reintroducción del águila pescadora en la Comunidad Valenciana, que dirige el Servicio de Vida Silvestre de la Generalitat Valenciana, y en el que colaboran entidades como Fundación Iberdrola y los Ayuntamientos de Pego y de Oliva.
