As we come together to celebrate the vibrant festival of Timket, we embrace the rich heritage and traditions of Ethiopia.

This event, taking place annually on January 18th and 19th, commemorates the baptism of Jesus Christ in the River Jordan by John the Baptist. It is a time filled with joy, cultural expression, and community spirit.
Timket is not just a religious observance; it is a dazzling cultural extravaganza that showcases Ethiopia's unique customs and practices.

The celebrations extend over three magical days, harmonizing beautifully with the monthly feast of St. Michael, Ethiopia's beloved archangel.

During this special time, we witness enchanting processions across the nation—from the vibrant streets of Addis Ababa to the sacred grounds of Lalibela and the historical beauty of Gondar. Participants, adorned in stunning white traditional attire, gather to partake in this momentous occasion, radiating joy and renewal.

The eve of Timket, known as Ketera, is marked by exhilarating festivities as revelers and clergy carry the sacred Tabots (replicas of the Ark of the Covenant) to nearby water bodies.
