Daketa- the Valley of Marvels•••••••••► 30Km East of Harar the limestone thins out, and the underlying Precambrian basement is exposed. The basement here is formed of granite and granite gneiss (a metamor-phic rock similar in composition to granite, but with a banded texture), types of rock which tend to weather into rounded boulders by a process.► These boulders can remain piled on top of each other for hundreds, orperhaps thousands, of years, often after having become quite disconnected. ◈ Gneiss is a metamorphic rock formed by changing schist, granite, or volcanic rocks through intense heat and pressure. ◈ The main difference between gneiss and granite is that gneiss is a type of metamorphic rock, whereas granite is a type of igneous rock
