Day 7 – Semera → Galfi (Djibouti Border) | Farewell
After breakfast in Semera, we drive toward Galfi, the border with Djibouti. Along the way, we reflect on the unforgettable days shared in the Danakil raw landscapes, warm hospitality, and powerful moments that will stay with us forever.
At the border, our trusted partner company from Djibouti arrives to receive the guests and continue the journey. We assist with the smooth transfer and formalities.
Then comes the hardest part saying goodbye. With smiles, handshakes, and heartfelt thanks, we farewell our wonderful guests. It has been a pleasure to travel together, to share stories, laughter, and once in a lifetime experiences. We wish them a safe onward journey and hope to meet again, somewhere on the road.

Day 6
Early in the morning, we hike to Erta Ale Volcano to visit the crater and explore the surrounding area. After returning to camp, breakfast is ready and served.
Following breakfast, we continue to Afdera, where we take a shower and enjoy swimming in the salty Lake Afdera.
We return to the Afdera camp, where our cook and crew are waiting. We share our final lunch together and say thank you and goodbye to the team. The cook and crew then return to Mekelle with the cook’s vehicle.
After the farewell, we continue our journey to Semera, where we spend the night.

Day 5
Early morning Dallol excursion with sunrise breakfast on the salt flats.
Visit the colorful hydrothermal areas and salt mountains.
Return to camp for lunch, then continue to Erta Ale Volcano for the evening hike and overnight.

Day 4 – Mekelle to Danakil (Afdera, Dallol, Hamed Ela)
Early in the morning, we left Mekelle and changed to 4×4 vehicles, as access to the Danakil Depression is only possible by off-road cars. All camping equipment, food supplies, and sleeping materials for the next three days were loaded, and our local Danakil team and cook joined us.
We drove toward Afdera, stopped briefly for lunch, and continued through the vast Danakil desert. In the late afternoon, we arrived at Dallol and Hamed Ela, where we enjoyed the sunset over the salt flats. Guests relaxed in the natural salty pools and took time to enjoy the unique landscape.
In the evening, we reached our campsite. Dinner was prepared by our cook, and we spent the night outdoors under the stars.

Day 3 – Abune Yemata & Local Wedding Experience
We started the day with a visit to the breathtaking Abune Yemata Guh, one of Tigray’s most iconic rock-hewn churches. After the hike and exploration, we were honored to attend a real local wedding at our colleague Birhanu’s home, sharing an authentic cultural moment with the community. In the afternoon, we continued our journey to Mekelle for the night.
