✨What is a “Watermelon Aurora”?
It’s one of the rarest Northern Lights colour combinations — a beautiful mix of green and soft pink that looks almost like a slice of watermelon glowing across the Arctic sky.
This unique effect appears when the aurora reaches very high altitudes, where oxygen produces red and pink tones instead of the usual green. When these colours blend, the sky creates this stunning “watermelon” look that photographers and aurora lovers dream of.
Even though we’re currently enjoying the Midnight Sun here in Rovaniemi, we’re already getting excited for the return of aurora season.
Our Northern Lights tours in Rovaniemi start again on 1st of September, and we can’t wait to chase the sky with you — from classic green arcs to rare colours like this one.
