Blue Lagoon Cruises would like to thank everyone for sharing so many wonderful memories in the previous post. We are truly humbled by the images, comments, stories, and the vast array of well-wishes that have been received.

As a result of yesterday’s post, we have received queries from many past guests as to the status of the crew and the ship. We are appreciative of such interest, and we can update as follows:

The Fiji Princess crew will all be retained and provided roles within our wider business, including onboard sister ship, Yasawa Princess II. The Fiji Princess crew is a large part of what made the product so special, and we know they’ll continue to provide the same experiences across other areas of our business.

In terms of the ship herself, the unfortunate timing of Tropical Cyclone Vaianu prevented any possibility of safely refloating Fiji Princess after the grounding incident on the 4th of April. The ship then sustained further damage during the cyclone, and this ultimately led to the ship's retirement. A process to remove the ship from its current location is well underway, and Blue Lagoon Cruises is being well supported in this process by expert consultants, professional salvors, and the ship's insurers. The process to remove the ship is currently expected to take anywhere from 1 - 3 months, with the exact timing subject to ongoing assessments, planning, and relevant approvals. The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji - MSAF continues to be updated and is supportive of the actions undertaken by Blue Lagoon Cruises since the incident occurred. We want everyone to be assured that the safe removal of the ship and the ongoing protection of the surrounding environment are and will remain of paramount importance to Blue Lagoon Cruises.

Our other immediate focus continues to be on contacting impacted guests with alternative options. This process is being undertaken as quickly as possible.

With much sadness and following initial recovery efforts, Blue Lagoon Cruises has made the difficult decision to retire MV. Fiji Princess following an incident on the 4th of April 2026.

The ship, which has been part of the Blue Lagoon Cruises fleet for more than 22 years, dragged whilst at anchor during a severe weather event and as a result grounded on a nearby reef. All guests and crew safely disembarked.

Guests impacted by the retirement of MV. Fiji Princess will be contacted and provided with an array of alternate options.

Blue Lagoon Cruises would also like to say a big Vinaka Vakalevu to everyone for their support and well wishes during such a difficult time.

The team at Blue Lagoon Cruises appreciates the many guests who cruised on board Fiji Princess, and we know many amazing memories were created on board. We would therefore love for you to share your images, memories, or comments as a final salute and as a fitting end to an amazing era of cruising.
