#3 reason to visit Hossegor:
Spacious beaches and no kelp, but here is the low-down.
I don’t want to include the entire Atlantic coast because I haven’t seen that much of it, however as Hossegor is billed as a surf town I think this is fair.
The beach is indeed pretty much sand but not as much so as back home which I attribute to the smaller waves. Smaller waves = more pebbles in the sand.
There is a nice gradient into the surf but it breaks on shore. I imagine that in winter it is further out and larger, just like at home. This is a great place for children to learn to surf. Waves are never more than three feet.
I will say that it’s one thing to see a grown man surfing foam when most elsewhere would turn out and paddle back for an actual wave, and another so see a child tooling around in whatever they can get.
It sort of made me sad. 😞 It’s a little pathetic and I am short one scratch on my itch but you know what? I’m going to drive back down in winter!
