Wow what a busy week its been for us here at Gite Petite 😬

3 different sets of guests and all left happy and rested 😌

Today we spent time with visitors at the mediaeval town of Domfront.

Beautiful historic buildings and a stunning church dominating the centre, Domfront is steeped in history and there is so much to look at including the ruins of a castle.

Plenty of shops and cafes too.

Gite Petite is only 30mins drive from Domfront.

Gite Petite has had a little freshen-up outside and work continues on designing and planning planted areas to enhance the guest experience.

Our 1-bed gite provides peace and tranquility in a very rural French location. Local amenities are a short drive from the property.

A well-equipped kitchen is in place,
along with both French and UK TV channels, free wi-fi and free private parking.

We also have the facility to securely park motorcycles under cover on the premises if required.

We have availability throughout the 2026 season and beyond.

I took advantage of the portes ouvertes at Jardin du Moulin today and what a beautiful space it is!
Butterflies 🦋 and bees 🐝 and a plethora of other insects and wildlife were having the time of their lives amongst the myriad of plants - herbs, flowers and vegetables 😊

This local small business makes lots of fabulous items from the plants and herbs grown in this garden. Chutneys, herbal teas and syrups were all available to try and to purchase and I was really spoilt for choice! 😋

Jardin du Moulin is only a 5-minute drive from Gite Petite and there are also many other small businesses in the surrounding area.

J'ai profité des portes ouvertes du Jardin du Moulin aujourd'hui, et quel endroit magnifique !

Papillons 🦋, abeilles 🐝 et une multitude d'autres insectes et animaux sauvages s'épanouissaient parmi la myriade de plantes : herbes aromatiques, fleurs et légumes 😊

Cette petite entreprise locale confectionne de nombreux produits délicieux à partir des plantes et herbes aromatiques cultivées dans ce jardin. Chutneys, tisanes et sirops étaient proposés à la dégustation et à la vente, et j'avais l'embarras du choix ! 😋

Le Jardin du Moulin se trouve à seulement 5 minutes en voiture du Gîte Petite, et de nombreuses autres petites entreprises sont également présentes dans les environs.

Did you know...................? 🧐

The French baguette 🥖or "baguette de tradition française" is a long and thin type of bread of French origin, distinguishable by its length and crisp crust.
French law👮‍♀️defines the dough and the physical dimensions of this traditional baguette – breads not using these definitions are not permitted to be declared as French baguettes.

First recorded in 1920 as a word to define a type of bread, the word “baguette” translates as “wand”, “baton” or “stick”.

Outside of France, the baguette is widely considered a symbol of French culture although there was previously an association of France with long loaves with long, wide loaves being made since the time of King Louis XIV, and long thin ones since the mid-18th Century 🫅

There are those who claim that Napoleon created the French baguette allowing soldiers to carry them more easily because the round shape of other breads took up a lot of space.
There is also a belief that baguettes were the “Bread of Equality” which followed a decree after the French Revolution requiring a type of bread which was accessible to both the rich and the poor.

Whatever the history, baguettes are a staple of French food and consumed on a daily basis in the households of France (apparently around 30 million!), often with butter and jam and even sometimes dunked in bowls of coffee or hot chocolate ☕️as a breakfast item.

Another very happy guest left Gite Petite yesterday feeling relaxed and refreshed after a few days peace and quiet 😊

Despite the drizzly rain, Murphy and I decided to get some fresh air and took a walk around Fosse Arthour this afternoon.

A beautiful area to walk in, even when it's wet and rainy 😍
