Ok gotta be honest with you. Before moving to France the french food, as hyped all over the world, seemed something very appealing! After coming to France, I realised that it's not vegetarian friendly and certainly not suited to South asian pallettes. In Asia food is based on spices and different types of chillies. On the contrary, here I see french people using a lot of milk based products like cream, cheese, butter their cooking. Which makes the food very heavy and a bomb of calories. Ok now that's all the negative stuff.
Coming to the positives. There are a few dishes/ingredients that I do appreciate. One of them being the classic Ratatouille. Extremely simple to make. It's nothing but some good quality cold pressed extra virgin olive oil and tomatoes, onions, aubergine, zucchini and red peppers being cooked in it for a long time so that the veggies release their natural sugars. This dish is so comforting on a rainy day. They consider it as a summer dish. For me it's more of a cold weather, cozy dish. I added some pecorino Romano on top which my husband rejected as he says ,"Fromage avec ça ? Jamais!" 😋 And some fresh baguette dipped in those juices. Yummm! Have you tried it? Did you like it?
Now if you swipe for the second image, I am just trying to promote composting. I never composted in India or in the US. I never even recycled anything. I feel guilty but there was no infrastructure for it. I have learnt how important it is to think about the planet and make small adjustments in our lives to create a more ecological future. Do you compost?
