01 — Lutetia
Before becoming Paris, this was a Gallo-Roman city known as Lutetia. Visit the Arènes de Lutèce — one of the city’s oldest Roman remains.
02 — Montmartre
Picasso, Van Gogh, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec, Modigliani… At the turn of the 20th century, Montmartre became one of Europe’s great artistic hubs.
03 — Louvre
Built in the 12th century to defend Paris, it later became a royal residence before becoming a museum in 1793. Look closely: remnants of the medieval fortress are still visible beneath the Louvre today.
04 — Eiffel Tower
Built for the 1889 World’s Fair, the tower was originally intended to stand for only 20 years.
Not only radio transmissions helped save it from demolition.
05 — Statue of Liberty
Its monumental copper statue was assembled in Paris before being dismantled and shipped to New York. And yes, Gustave Eiffel designed its internal iron framework.
06 — Pont-Neuf
Despite its name, the Pont-Neuf is the oldest surviving bridge in Paris.
Construction began in 1578 and finished in 1607.
07 — Sacré-Cœur
Its white stone reacts with rainwater, releasing calcium carbonate that helps keep the basilica brilliantly white. That’s why it can actually become whiter over time.
