🦴 Dinosaur bones! 🦴

We had a great time roaming around the Galerie de Paléontologie et d'Anatomie comparée (to give it its full title) with our little explorer 🤠

Part of the National Natural History Museum, and located in the lovely Jardin des Plantes, this gallery is the place to go in Paris to find dinosaur bones, fossils and giant eggs 🥚

The building is stunningly beautiful too and very Parisian. It's old and untouched and, as such, the facilities are a bit basic. Head to the other side of the park and the Galerie d'évolution for better toilets, baby change and shopping options 🦖

We topped off our visit with a walk through the park and mint tea and pastries at the Grande Mosquée de Paris مسجد باريس الكبير 🕌

🌷 The World of Suzanne Valadon 🌷

One of my favourite people in the story of Montmartre, Suzanne Valadon was a circus acrobat who was forced to give up performing after an injury, and so started to model for the up-and-coming artists gathering in Montmartre.

In spending time with the likes of Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec and Degas, she learned how to draw and paint, and became the first woman to be admitted to the Salon de Societé Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1894.

Suzanne Valadon was also the first female artist to paint a male n**e in the history of art. She broke down many stereotypes in a fiercely male world, but at the same time was greatly loved and respected by her male peers. She died at the age of 73, surrounded by her friends Picasso and Braque; I like to think she might have visited them at boulevard de Clichy.

Her studio at her former home at 12 rue de Cortot - now the Musée de Montmartre - was painstakingly reconstructed in the 2010s. Featured in the Netflix series Heartstopper, it's a beautifully calm and atmospheric haven, and I love the fact that - amidst a plethora of wonderful and talented male artists - the museum chose to honour this inspiring woman 🩷

🌜 Nights at the Museum (of Montmartre) 🌜

It was so much fun to visit the Musée de Montmartre after dark this evening to celebrate the 125th birthday of Jacques Prévert!

The exhibition - and the rest of the museum - was open for free, along with live music, drinks, and a buzzy local vibe.

Late openings - known as nocturnes - like this are a wonderful way to experience the museums and galleries of Paris.

And the Musée de Montmartre is well worth a visit; it's usually 15€ for a ticket and is open every day from 10am to 6pm.

Our free - if cold - February is going well, though... now to warm up with a chocolat chaud! ☕️

💐 The Latin Quarter - by day and by night ✨️

Located on the Left Bank of the Seine, in the 5th and 6th arrondissements, the Latin Quarter is one of my favourite places to wander through Paris - in all seasons and at any time of the day.

Founded by the Romans, it's one of the oldest parts of the city and is characterised by its university buildings, cobblestone streets and medieval architecture, as the area was spared much of the remodelling of Baron Haussmann.

Don't miss the Jardin des Plantes, the area around the Pantheon, the Medici Fountain in the Jardin du Luxembourg, and the Cluny Museum. If you're up for a walk, has some great downloadable walking tours of the area too!

🇫🇷 La belle France 🇫🇷

These were my favourite places visited in 2024 - the Côte d'Azur, Lyon, Provence, exploring medieval Paris, Beaune (and Dijon), the Normandy coast, and taking some time out in Tours.

I visited them all by train, all on a budget, and most over the course of a weekend or one night away (the Côte d'Azur merited a full week!).

I also did them all as a solo traveller, mainly to take some time out from the joyous chaos of organising a major event... which I then went back to recharged and reinvigorated. If Paris allowed us to shine in 2024, France allowed me to breathe.

I'm looking forward to having more time to breathe in 2025 (albeit on even more of a budget); where to next?

Bonne année ! ❄️ Happy New Year!

This week marks three years in Paris for me! I took this photo across the Seine on my first weekend in the city. At the time, it was still such a novelty to see the Eiffel Tower up close.

I hope you've all had a lovely festive break, and I look forward to sharing lots of Paris with you in 2025 ✨️
