Surrounded by seven hills and flanked by the River Usk the town and its surrounding countryside is renowned for its natural beauty with the Blorenge mountain dominating the town. Whilst the town offers an excellent range of shops, cattle and general market as well as a hospital, main line railway station as well as excellent road links leading to the A465 and A40 trunk routes and in turn to the M4 and M50 motorways. Leisure facilities within the town are equally impressive with Avenue Road Cricket Ground, home to many Glamorgan County cricket games, as well as rugby, tennis, bowls and football clubs leisure centre etc, whilst the surrounding countryside is ideal for outdoor activities such as horse riding, hill walking, fishing and bird watching.
