Yesterday we received the most wonderful surprise. A huge box of delicious Swiss chocolates arrived with a lovely thank you letter and photo from a delightful family from Germany who stayed in the barn last month. A huge thank you from us - it means so much to us to know that you had such a lovely time in England and we really enjoyed getting to know you!

What a beautiful evening yesterday for a dog walk in the (marginally) cooler air. Wow it is hot, hot, hot!! Fortunately the barn manages to remain relatively cool on these hotter days, with the help of a couple of fans.
Hope you are all managing to keep cool?!

The “Rambling Rector” in all his glory! I wish you could smell the scent of this beautiful rose - it is intoxicating!
A lovely German family arrived to stay in The Hay Barn yesterday, for 10 days. They are planning lots of local trips as well as further afield, including of course London.
Whilst we feel a world away from London, it is so quick and easy to get up there for the day or even just an evening (as we did with our girls last night to go and see the brilliant Mean Girls musical in the Savoy Theatre!).
We love our trips up to London (the eldest particularly enjoys her shopping trips 😆) but we also LOVE coming back to the green and rolling hills of Hampshire at the end of it!
Happy Sunday everyone! I will be in my art studio as part of along with my lovely fellow Farringdon creatives on the . Do come and see us today and you will even get to smell this gorgeous rose as it is right next to the entrance of my studio!!

The weather here in Farringdon (and in much of the UK) has been utterly glorious! This is undoubtedly my favourite time of the year and in my opinion, the best time to enjoy the British countryside. I will never forget flying back to the UK in early May after living in Australia for over a year and being hit with a joyful, vibrant, lush green that I think is unique to this country. With all the bluebells in bloom, the cow parsley emerging, the wild garlic in flower and the hawthorn in full blossom, it is absolutely stunning and I am lapping up every moment of it. Hope it stays lovely for our next guests, who are funnily enough Australian! I wonder if they will experience the same wonder at the green as me?!

I am not sure our apple tree has ever had such a wonderful display of blossom! Hoping that means lots of delicious apples come the Autumn, but in the meantime it provides a beautiful view from the barn!

If it weren’t for the bare trees, you could be mistaken for thinking this snap was taken on a hot summer’s day, when in actual fact it was taken this morning on one of our favourite dog walks over the hill to Chawton! I can’t believe it is too warm for a jumper today - just glorious!
And yes, this is me with our younger pooch (our older one is 16 and enjoying a quieter pace, lying in the sunshine at home!).
I can’t quite believe that this is our sixth year of running The Hay Barn and I can honestly say that we have enjoyed almost every minute of it. We have loved meeting such a variety of guests from around the world, some of whom have become friends. To date, we have welcomed guests from Australia, the US, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, France and of course lots from the UK. Some visit for just a few days and others for two weeks, but for however long, they always receive a warm welcome and never tire of things to see and do.
So why do guests choose to spend time in this gorgeous part of the world? Our proximity to Chawton and all its links with Jane Austen, provides an obvious appeal as well as plenty of National Trust properties close by. The Watercress line from Chawton to Alresford is big appeal for steam train enthusiasts and our younger guests. Downton Abbey (aka Highclere Castle) 40 mins away and Stonehenge, not much further. Local vineyards including the award winning Hattingley Valley whose sparkling wines rival the best champagnes and who offer tours and tastings. The beautiful cathedral city of Wi******er is just down the road and for many, just the pleasure of spending time in a beautiful rural village, with lots of stunning walks from the front door and delicious food and drink in our cosy and atmospheric village pub is enough. Whatever your motivation for a break away, there is something to suit everyone here at The Hay Barn, and we would love to see you!
