A day as a Police Officer…how does it look?
As it’s Emergency Services Day 2026 we think that the above is a great question because the answer to that is ever changing on a day to day basis, as no day is the same!
In Causeway Coast & Glens we have Local Policing Teams, and Neighbourhood Policing Teams which would be the main two front line uniformed teams. There are also a multitude of departments to who specialise in specific areas based within district such as Public Protection Branch (PPU).
Calls for service range from emergency calls such as fi***rm incidents, road traffic collisions and DEFIB calls from NIAS. To priority and scheduled calls which could be not ongoing thefts, assaults and so much more! The list is a long one and with covering such rural areas too, we often have cattle calls for cows or sheep on the road!
But we don’t work alone! We work with and alongside the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, the RNLI, search and rescue, community search and rescue, the Coastguard to name just a few.
It’s in situations such as cliff rescues, road traffic collisions and missing persons where we all come together as one. Each person bringing a unique set of skills to the incident be it rope skills, life saving medical intervention or taking a roof of a vehicle which holds a trapped person inside. As one we are stronger together!
In society we should remember this. We are all unique, we all have had very different life experiences but together we are stronger and can make change happen. Together we can find solutions.
Stay safe, stay kind and keep smiling!
