Michaela, a local mum from the Barry business community, is taking on a sunrise hike up South Wales’ highest peak, Pen Y Fan, to raise money for Y Bont — a one-of-a-kind nursery in Wales for children with complex needs, disabilities, and life-limiting conditions.
For her son Roman, who lives with Autism, ADHD, and Global Developmental Delay, Y Bont has been nothing short of a sanctuary.
But now, this vital lifeline is at risk of closure as it's facing a funding crisis, with limited local authority support and rising costs.
So at 4:30am on June 1st, Michaela and a group of fellow mums will climb in the dark toward the light — for their children, and every child who deserves to be seen, supported, and celebrated.

This isn’t just about keeping a nursery open. It’s about fighting for the future of children who need it the most.
What if the only place that truly understood your child… was about to close its doors?
That’s the heartbreaking reality Michaela Collins and many others are facing. 💔
Michaela works at The Business Centre for Paul Ingram Employment & Recruitment—one of the Centre’s very first business residents.
Her 7-year-old son, Roman, is Autistic. He also has ADHD and Global Developmental Delay.
Life has been challenging — but at Y Bont, things started to make sense. Because Y Bont didn’t see a problem to fix. They saw Roman — a little boy with a joyful heart, a curious mind, and so much potential. 👏
Y Bont is the only specialist nursery of its kind in Wales. It’s a sanctuary for children with complex needs, disabilities, and life-limiting conditions. A lifeline for families like Michaela’s. 🙌
And now, it’s under threat. Funding is drying up. And this safe haven could be lost forever.
So, at 4:30am on June 1st, Michaela will begin to climb. Alongside three other incredible mums, Ashley, Anna and Beth, they’ll scale Pen Y Fan — the highest peak in South Wales.
They’ll climb in the dark toward the light — toward the sunrise — in a powerful act of hope.
Because this isn’t just a fundraiser. It’s a symbol of courage. Of love. Of what it means to fight for the future of your child — and every child walking a similar path.
