Rachel Dunford Consulting

Rachel Dunford Consulting Specialist support to the education sector: research, evaluation, business planning, problem solving, writing. Hi, I’m Rachel. I am the Impact Specialist.

My passion lies in helping my clients to capture the difference they make to the lives of the people they serve - especially when that difference is something that might feel intangible or unmeasurable. I work with small businesses, charities, large global membership bodies and everyone in between: so long as you want to make a positive impact somewhere, I want to help you achieve that! I began my career as a management consultant, specialising in complex change programmes and transformed into a solo business founder after having my first child, and I now have 12 years of successful self-employment under my belt. I have built an award-winning evaluation and impact measurement business, successfully helping countless clients to get to the heart of understanding their impact and finding ways to maximise it. I support my clients to focus their efforts on the things that deliver the greatest value and impact and help them make important decisions to stop doing the things that are no longer serving them or their audiences.

I LOVE meeting brilliant women.

I’m significantly less enthusiastic about walking into a room full of strangers and being told to “go and network” 😂

So I created the kind of networking I actually look forward to attending.

Impactful Networking is held via Zoom and gives you access to four proper, one-to-one conversations with four women in business every month.

No working the room, no 60-second pitch, and no awkwardly wondering who to talk to next.

Just ten uninterrupted minutes together to talk about what you do, what you’re looking for, the impact you make - and how you might be able to help each other.

Because networking can lead to brilliant things: clients, referrals, collaborations, introductions and people who carry your name into rooms you’re not in.

Our next session is Monday 21st September, 2–3pm.

Our first official Impactful Networking session is happening on Monday 21st September, 2-3pm 🎉

If traditional networking has never quite been your thing, this might be. No 60-second pitches round the table, no business cards you'll never look at again, no tie-in periods keeping you there.

You can talk about what you do, the impact you create, the people you'd love to meet, a collaboration you're looking for, a referral you need, or simply see where the conversation takes you.

Our taster session showed me just how much can come from giving people the time and space to actually talk to each other.

Want to be in the room on 21st September?

Impactful Networking is £20 a month, or if you're already a member of The Impactful Community®, you can add it to your membership for just £5 a month.

Your next four potential clients, collaborators, or referrals are waiting.

Head to the link below to secure your place.

I’m an Impact Specialist, so of course I was eventually going to start thinking about how we measure the impact of networking 😂

We’ve been lead to believe that a room full of people and leaving with 20 new LinkedIn connections means a successful networking session. For most people it isn’t.

For me, the interesting bit is what those conversations actually lead to.

After our first Impactful Networking taster, one conversation led to a follow-up with someone interested in an offer, a recommendation to another potential client AND a shout-out in another group. All from one conversation.

I’m not saying that every conversation will lead to that, of course it won’t. Some relationships take months to go somewhere. Some might lead to a collaboration, an introduction, a piece of advice or simply meeting someone you’re really glad to know.

That’s exactly why I’m much more interested in what happens because of the networking, not how many people we can squeeze into a virtual room.

Our next Impactful Networking session is Monday 21st September, 2-3pm. Come and have four proper conversations with four women in business, you never know where they may lead.

I have crippling social anxiety.

You probably wouldn’t guess that about me, especially as I host not one but two community and networking groups.

But the truth is I find it terrifying to go into new rooms. I panic about not knowing anyone. I worry I have nothing to say. I obsess in my head about how to start a conversation. I tell myself nobody will want to talk to me. I convince myself that the work I do won’t be of interest to anyone else.

There’s a lot that holds me back!

Anyway. Yesterday I took my friend out for her birthday. I got us tickets to a day retreat - a chance to have a few hours out of real life in a beautiful setting in the countryside.

And we had the absolute best time.

We did yoga, we ate delicious food, we had an indulgent hour in a sound bath, and we also danced. We danced!! Totally sober!! Outside, in a field, with total strangers.

If you’d have told me that’s what I’d have been doing before I went, I’d have been crippled with anxiety and self-doubt.

But it turned out that being surrounded by like-minded women, all there for the same reasons, made me feel totally at home.

So I danced. For hours! And I chatted and laughed and had the loveliest time.

It just goes to show how important it is to feel like you fit in.

And that’s exactly what I want my Impactful Networking to feel like.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t know anyone before you go: you’ll leave having met people who will make you feel at home.

We meet next Monday at 2pm online.

If you’re new around here, hello! 👋🏻

There are a few different strands to my work, but they all come back to something pretty simple:

I care about the difference our businesses make.

I want business owners to understand the impact they’re already creating, have the evidence to back it up, and use what they learn to make better decisions about where they go next.

And I want women in business to have good people around them while they do it.

That’s why alongside my impact work, I created The Impactful Community® - a space for values-led women to have honest conversations about business, impact and everything that comes with it.

And now Impactful Networking - where we can meet new women, talk about what we do, make meaningful connections and hopefully carry each other’s names into rooms we’re not even in.

So whether you’re here for impact, community, networking or a bit of all three, welcome!

I’d love to know what brought you here. Come and say hello in the comments.

I just popped by to ask: have you got your space yet? ❤️

Impactful Networking is back on Monday 21st September at 2pm online.

It’s built around four private conversations, and there’s no pitching involved, so you leave with real connections instead of a stack of business cards.

There’s just over a week to go now, and spaces are filling up!

If you’ve been meaning to book, this is your reminder.

Imagine if you met 4 brilliant women who could become clients, collaborators, referrers…or the person who introduces you to your next big opportunity.

That’s exactly why I created Impactful Networking.

Not to collect as many contacts as possible, but to give you proper time to get to know four women, understand what they do and make sure they understand what you do too.

Because you never quite know where one good conversation might lead.

Our next session is 21st September, 2–3pm.

You’ll have four private, ten-minute conversations, with prompts from me if you need them. No pitching to a big room. No awkward working the room. Just time to actually talk.

Fancy seeing where your four conversations could lead?

A tale about why following the crowd is sometimes actually a good idea…

One of the first places we went on our holiday this year was to the Gardens by the Bay, in Singapore. It’s absolutely amazing - obviously huge, impressive and beautiful, with the highlight for us being the enormous cloud forest dome full of stunning tropical plants and flowers.

After a long morning exploring in the pretty challenging heat, we needed some lunch. Options were a bit limited so reluctantly we joined the (stupidly long) queue in McDonalds (they really do have a restaurant everywhere on the planet it turns out…!)

To say it was chaos would be an understatement. If there was a system for getting the food out quickly to the not-at-all-patiently-waiting crowd, it wasn’t visible. There were a lot of increasingly angry customers, hot and hungry, not helping the delay by complaining and pushing in.

We, however, watched on in mild amusement.

Anyway, I digress.

We eventually got our food and turned round to try and find somewhere to sit and eat. But of course the place was packed to the rafters and there wasn’t a single chair to be had, let alone a table.

So we decided to take our food outside. There was a beautiful path outside (we’re still in the Gardens by the Bay, remember), lined on both sides by jungle-like forests, and there were loads of huge rocks, shaped into seats dotted around.

But nobody was using them. (Like, NO-ONE!)

So we chose a spot that looked pretty and settled in to eat our local delicacies (err, or our filet of fish and chicken nuggets..)

Life was good.

Until it all of a sudden really wasn’t.

All at once there was a blood curdling scream from my son and I felt something sharp and painful in my leg.

His lunch went flying. He shot up from the rock he was sitting on and started to run.

Then my daughter started to scream, and she too was on her feet, running.

Turns out, we’d been attacked by a very aggressive and clearly very hungry crow. It had made a bee-line for one of Josh’s chicken nuggets and we all got caught in the crossfire.

In the madness that ensued, the bird managed to get Josh on the arm, me on my leg, my daughter on her head and then my husband too for good measure.

It was genuinely terrifying!! We were all ok in the end but the kids were pretty shaken and it turns out that crows’ beaks are really ruddy sharp!!

The moral of the story?

Sometimes there’s a good reason to follow the crowd. Seems the locals knew better than to sit outside, totally exposed, attempting to eat under the watchful gaze of the local corvids.

It’s not always a good idea to be a maverick!

(Pics of the cloud forest and some of the beautiful tropical flowers that made the whole encounter worth it in the end!)

19/08/2026

Running a business asks a lot of you.

Not just in terms of time and energy, although it's certainly that. But the quieter, less visible stuff too.

The constant decision-making, the emotional weight of putting yourself and your work out into the world. The way you can have your best month ever and still wake up the next morning wondering if anyone will ever hire you again.

A lot of women talk about imposter syndrome as though it's something they should have sorted out by now. In reality, I think it's often just what happens when you're doing something hard, largely on your own. When you're stuck in your own head, everything feels bigger and heavier than it really is.

Perspective doesn't come from thinking harder about it. It comes from being in conversation.

What I see again and again in The Impactful Community® is someone sharing something they've been turning over quietly. A doubt. A decision they've been avoiding. Something they've been thinking about at 2am and immediately dismissing as "probably just me."

And instead of surprise, the response is simple recognition.

"Oh. Same."

Nothing gets fixed in that moment. But the weight shifts.

That's what this community space is for. Honest conversations with women who completely understand what running a values-led business actually takes.

We meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 11am on Zoom.
