There's many a Saturday night you could have found Wee Walks Belfast here at Joplins in the old Drumkeen Hotel.
It was one of South East Belfast's busiest entertainment venues opening in the 1960's before closing in 1994 and was located just beside where Sainsbury's petrol station is on Upper Galway.
I wonder if it was still around today would it be called 'Lesley-keen' 🤣

This is a nice little tribute from the Shultz Museum showing the April 1976 cover of Ms Magazine which was launched by the legendary Gloria Steinem in 1972. Ms was the first magazine owned, run and written by women and Gloria had helped to found New York magazine a few years before in 1968. She remained with Ms as editor and writer for the next fifteen years.
Gloria died yesterday at her home in Manhattan aged 92.

Before we had Amazon our one stop shopping was done in a Department Store 🛍
We had many of therm here in Belfast including Anderson McAuley which traded for 133 years before closing its doors in 1994 (it's now Zara).
We talk about shopping here in its heyday during the middle of the last century on our 'Glitz, Glam and a bit of Gossip':Women of Belfast Walking Tour which we're next running on Sunday 20th of September.

Belfast City Hall has been lit up pink in memory of the country music star.

The special illumination is in recognition of her death last week at the age of 80.

Parton had a connection to the city through her Imagination Library, with Belfast City Council teaming up with her foundation in 2025 to provide free books to babies registered at city hall.

She also performed in Northern Ireland a number of times, most recently at Belfast’s Odyssey Arena in 2014.
