One of the strangest things about Bali was realising it had been 10 years since we last travelled to Asia, and that our eldest son is now the same age our youngest was back then.

This time, they had opinions, suggestions, and very strong views on what they wanted to eat 🤣

Travelling with them when they were younger felt almost simpler in many ways. It made me realise how much family travel changes as children grow.

Bali also confirmed something for us , we still absolutely love Asia, probably even more than travelling to Western destinations.

We love the hustle and bustle of the streets, the craft markets, the food, and those slow sunsets on the beach while the boys play. There’s something about the atmosphere, the everyday life, and the value for money compared to the experience that just feels so special to us.

It reminded me why we keep coming back.

A whistle stop tour in Italy.

Grabbing my best flight deal yet of £36 return I headed to Verona for the weekend.

We only had a short time in Italy and to make the most of it I hopped on a 1 hr 30 minute train in Venice first thing on the Saturday morning.

For anyone visiting Venice there is now an entry fee to pay for the historic centre which can be bought online in advance or at the site on the day.

We headed to the main square Piazza San Marco and then walked over to the grand canal. We skipped the expensive Gondolas and we hopped on a water taxi for £25 each to experience the water and we had great views of Santa Maria della Salute. Our final stop was Rialto which taxied right in front of the Rialto Bridge.

Finishing off the morning with a slice of pizza and sitting in the sun watching the gondolas go by soaking up the sun.

A quick train ride back to Verona and once again wondering the cobbled streets and taking in some of the key sites.

Sadly Juliets Balcony is no longer free and you have to book tickets to see it.

Wrapping up the evening in a lovely restaurant called Caffe Del Teatro. Service and food were excellent and all really good value for money.

The airport is really easy to get to also if you use the airlink at porto nova train station. It was 7 Euros for a one way ticket to the airport and took 15 mins.

Bank holiday weekend flights under £100

5 destination I have spotted this morning that are worth the value for a bank holiday weekend. 1st May - 3rd May

Poznan - £83 , explore market square , grab a famous croissant , a polish beer and even time to sample the spa.

Verona - £43 , Juliets balcony and short Train to Venice , why not ?

Rome - £77, One of my favourite places , enough time for a whistle stop tour, a bowl of pasta and a aperol spritz.

Madrid - £60 - this ones for the football fans, Madrid are away but you can grab a tour at the stadium

Valencia - £62 , See the sites, grab some food and explore the beach .

If you ever spot a flight to Poznan for a steal then be sure to grab one.

It was my first time in Poland and it did not disappoint. We caught the 17:20 flight out of Birmingham on a Friday and returned Sunday afternoon. Flights were a bargain £48.

Like any new destination I went with zero expectations. The trip did not get off to a great start 2hrs in passport control waiting to register for the new EU biometric system... more on that later.

Finally we were on our way. Be sure to use Uber for your taxis as they are half the price of flagging a cab down.

Our accommodation for the weekend was an apartment right next door to Old Market Square.

Old market Square is a beautiful square famous for its bright merchant houses and Poznan town hall. You can grab a bite to eat or a drink and sit outside with beautiful views of the square.

A short walk away is the stunning Baroque Basilica. It's huge and breathtaking on the inside , and it's free to enter.

There is plenty of nightlife in the city and lots of food places. Be sure to try a croissant , Poznan is famous for its croissants and it did not disappoint. It was definitely the best croissant I have tasted.

Be sure to try Kulinarna Kamienica FOOD HALL for lunch or dinner They have a selection of 10 cuisines from Italian , Chinese , Indian , fried chicken all served to a really high standard. I had the carbanara which was prepared in a traditional cheese wheel. Meals are no more than £10 and are great value.

For breakfast we ate inside one of the merchant buildings ŚNIADANIA in market square next to the Poznan town hall and it was lovely. Don't be fooled this place looks small but if you pass down the stairs it opens up into caves that are lit up and is really cute place to stop off.

Football fans you can grab the game at Tanners Irish bar, It is a small bar with plenty of atmosphere and is a typical pub environment. Polish beer Zyweck is 15ZL a pint , Magners is 25zl a pint. A typical round cost around £15.

So Poznan reminds me of an old story book town and I would visit again in a heart beat. There's so much to explore from the zoo to the thermal spa that If I got given the chance I would go back for.

Poznan is a great place for a family, stag , hens or couples weekend.

🇮🇪 Dublin in a Day
With St Patrick’s Day around the corner, I thought I’d share my Dublin in a Day trip.

If you haven’t been to Dublin yet… why not? I managed to bag return flights for around £50 and made it a same-day adventure - a full day in Ireland’s capital.

We grabbed the bus straight from the airport into the heart of the city and found somewhere for breakfast. I was determined to try a traditional Irish breakfast - let’s just say I wasn’t a fan of the black and white pudding!

We packed a lot into one day:
Crossed the iconic Ha’penny Bridge
Visited Trinity College
Bought the all-important Irish Lotto ticket
Walked past Dublin Castle
Wandered through the Temple Bar area

No trip to Dublin would be complete without stopping at St Patrick’s Cathedral. The architecture is stunning and it’s well worth the visit.

We walked down to the Guinness Storehouse and managed to book onto the tour last minute and I’m so glad we did.
I’m not a huge Guinness fan, but the tour itself was a great experience. The samples were fun, and the panoramic views of the city from the Gravity Bar were incredible.

After all that walking, we settled into a few of the bars around Temple Bar. It genuinely feels like the place where no one sleeps, such a brilliant atmosphere.

One thing to note: Dublin is not a cheap city. Drinks are expensive… so be warned!

I caught the 7am flight out and was back home in bed by 10:30pm.
A long day , but a really great one 🇮🇪✨

Belfast ? Sure why not ?

For Christmas this year I treated my husband and parents to a weekend in Belfast.

Flying out from Birmingham at 7am on Saturday and returning around 5pm Sunday for a bargain £50 return !

I booked a cheap 2 bedroom apartment for £117 and that was us set for the weekend.

We grabbed a taxi from the airport as there was a group of us and the taxi driver dropped us off at his chosen venue for breakfast in the city.

After breakfast we had a stroll to the Titanic museum and headed back into the city after that we grabbed a drink in the Dark horse.

We then stopped off at St Georges Market and checked out the local stalls ... food , arts, clothing , gifts they had it with a dose of live music.

We then strolled to our apartment and checked in. We headed straight back out to the peace walls of Belfast along Falls and Shankhill Road. Each taxi driver we spoke to gave us there account of the troubles which was fascinating and were really helpful in showing us where to go.

Evening drinks was spent in Commercial court , buzzing with bars its the place to grab a Guinness or two if your in Belfast.
Recommended pub is The Dark Horse and we spent a lot of time here. It has that old authentic pub feel.

Day 2 - Nothing opens in Belfast until around 1pm so we had a morning stroll to city hall , and stopped off for a coffee.

We then looked up the best places for Sunday roast and Fountain Lane popped up. We headed straight to Fountain Lane to find people queuing for it to open. On the menu carvery. It was so good and a great price £13.95.

We had a final wonder around the shops in Victoria Square and the grabbed a taxi back to the airport.

A short and sweet visit to Belfast !
