Some hotels are simply a place to sleep. Others become part of the destination itself.

My stay at Kruger Shalati was unlike anything I've ever experienced.

Suspended above the Sabie River on a historic railway bridge in the heart of Kruger National Park, this remarkable property has earned two Michelin Keys and redefines what a luxury safari stay can be. One of the standout experiences from my trip to South Africa was the chance to take part in two early-morning bush walks in the wilderness surrounding Kruger.

As the sun began to rise, we walked for miles accompanied by the sounds of birds awakening, lions roaring in the distance and hyenas calling across the bush. It was both exhilarating and humbling.

Being on foot brought a completely different perspective to a safari. There was a real sense of vulnerability knowing we were in their territory, not ours. But with every step, our incredible guides shared their knowledge of the bush, teaching us how to track wildlife, read animal behaviour and appreciate the delicate balance of this remarkable ecosystem.

An unforgettable experience and a reminder that some of the best travel memories come from slowing down, switching off and truly immersing yourself in nature.

Another unforgettable day in the heart of Kruger National Park! 🦁🌅

We spent time at the incredible Tshokwane River Camp, a unique camp that only operates between May and September before being completely removed for the rest of the year. Nestled deep in the bush, it offers a truly authentic safari experience.

Last night we enjoyed a breathtaking Sunset Safari, complete with sundowners as the African sun dipped below the horizon. Then this morning, we headed out on an amazing Bush Walk – an unforgettable way to experience the sights, sounds and wildlife of Kruger up close.

Every moment here feels like an adventure, and we're loving every second of it! 🇿🇦🐘🦒

Our next stop is staying at the wonderful Kruger Gate Hotel, perfectly placed right by the entrance to Kruger National Park.

Here you can wake up to the sounds of the bush, enjoy gentle game drives, relax by the pool and soak up the views over the Sabie River.

It is an ideal base if you are looking for a comfortable, relaxed way to start the magic of safari.

What an incredible start to the trip! Today was all about taking in some of South Africa’s most breathtaking scenery, from towering waterfalls and dramatic mountain landscapes to the famous Blyde River Canyon, God’s Window, the Three Rondavels and Bourke’s Luck Potholes.

The views have been absolutely spectacular, and the camera definitely got a workout! 📸 From winding rivers cutting through ancient rock formations to panoramic viewpoints that seem to stretch forever, every stop has been a reminder of just how beautiful this country is.

A fantastic first day with great company, plenty of laughs and memories already being made. Looking forward to seeing what the rest of the journey has in store!

🇿🇦 If I Had to Choose Just One Country... It Would Be South Africa

As a travel expert, I'm often asked what my favourite country is to visit. My usual answer is, "I can't choose – there are too many favourites, depending on the type of trip you're looking for."

But if you really pushed me, I'd say South Africa.

The natural beauty, dramatic coastlines, world-class food and wine, incredible hotels and some of the best wildlife experiences on the planet make it a destination that never disappoints.

Today, I'm heading back to South Africa and visiting a completely new region for me – Kruger National Park. One of Africa's oldest game reserves, it's home to an astonishing variety of wildlife and offers some of the finest safari experiences anywhere in the world.

I'm fortunate that my career in travel allows me to explore amazing destinations, but today I'm excited. Really excited 😁

Over the next few days I'll be experiencing some truly exceptional accommodation and unforgettable wildlife encounters, and I'll be sharing the journey with you right here on this page...
