Hi everyone,
I’ve had one of those weeks. I’m sure most people in customer based jobs know exactly the kind I mean, so no sympathy required! 😅
This week, I’ve spent hours researching holidays, holding with suppliers, comparing options, revising quotes, answering messages late into the evening, and discussing different ideas back and forth. In some cases, that’s included conversations at 11pm.
Only to discover that some people were simply using me for information before booking elsewhere.
Now, I completely understand that people shop around. Everyone wants the best deal, and that’s their choice. Some people prioritise price above all else, while others value customer service, expertise, and the protection that comes with booking through an ABTA-backed travel advisor.
What many people don’t realise is that I work on commission. I don’t charge for my advice, research, recommendations, or time. I only get paid if a booking is made through me, and that commission comes from the supplier, not from your pocket.
Usually, this sort of thing happens occasionally and I brush it off. This week it’s happened four times, which is probably why it’s hit a nerve more than usual.
So, if you’re going to pick my brains (and they’re not exactly enormous! 😂), please at least give me the opportunity to quote for the holiday you’ve decided on before booking elsewhere.
I genuinely love helping people create amazing trips, and I’ll always go above and beyond for my clients. But my time, experience, and knowledge do have value.
Normally I’m full colour and smiling.
Today, I’m feeling a little more black and white.
