6 days pony packing on Skye.
I feel I know Scotland pretty well for cycling/gravel tracks so it's lovely to discover different areas and trails.
She did my proud - calm, surefooted, confident and forward thinking. I couldn't have asked for a better pony to be my adventure companion.
The weather wasn't the best in some ways (we got soaked through every day πŸ˜†πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ) but I do love Scotland in her moody colours 😍
Already planning the next one - aiming for the end of the midge season for a 4 day - but this time with Jumanji in tow so we can be self sufficient.

Want to find out more about bikepacking?
Never been and want to try - but don't know where/how to start?
Worried about what to take and where to go?
Been a few times but it's never worked out as you'd hoped?
Or just fancy finding out more about different kit and set ups?

Join me at The Bike Station - Perth (the brilliant charity that I used to work at) - on Thursday 11th June for a chat about all things bikepacking.

I will cover bike and bag choice, what to put where on your bike, camping and cooking kit (or hostel/bunkhouse ideas), route planning, ultralight vs comfort, and a few random tips that you'd never have thought about πŸ˜†

I'll be bringing a couple of my bikepacking rigs to see and there will be plenty of chances to ask questions as we chat.

Head to their page for info to book or follow this link -

Visual representation is so important.

When CeCe and watched Three Wheel Drive at (the film that and I produced about disability in the outdoors) CeCe saw adaptive cycles like hers on a bothy trip, and she knew that she wanted to do a similar trip with her Mum and friends and her son Atlas.

Vicky contacted me as she knew that as well as being a bikepacking guide I am also a support worker - working with individuals with learning and physical disabilities.

So how do you make bikepacking accessible to those with learning disabilities? With careful planning, a curious and open mind - and a positive attitude!

I picked a route suitable for her and did pre-trip videos showcasing the trails and the bothy so CeCe could visualise where she would be going. We had video chats so she could 'meet' me and ask me about any aspects of the trip. She already knew I had an understanding of adaptive cycles from the film so took confidence in that too.

We created a plan, including logistics and kit lists to make her feel more comfortable for an overnight stay (a portable toilet etc) and blocked a few days off so we could pick the best weather window for the night away.

I sought landowner permission to park vehicles overnight on their ground, to film, and to access the site through gates suitable for the adaptive cycles and trailers.

Making the outdoors more accessible to all just takes a bit more thought, a bit more planning and a bit more kit - but it's all nearly always doable.

And the more that disability - both physical and learning - is represented, the more people can believe that they too can do that adventure that had previously seemed unattainable.

CeCe is brave, determined, creative, fun and has such a positive outlook on life. The trip was an utter joy to be a part of.

Day 5 & 6 guiding the

Straight onto the climb out of Killin (somehow I'd booked accommodation that went straight onto a climb every day πŸ˜…πŸ«£) and over the Glen Ogle viaduct - a glorious feat of engineering now enjoyer as a multiuse path. No wild goats to be seen this time unfortunately.

The group then split with some heading along the NCN route for a relaxed coffee at whilst the others braved the Glen Ample climb - but were rewarded with stunning views at the top.

We regrouped and followed the cycle path to Callander for a relaxed lunch stop in the sun. That surreal moment when you see crowds of people again after a few days of blissful, peaceful wilderness 😬 I thought it was just me who felt that way - but the group also mentioned how busy and loud it seemed.

Up and over Dukes Pass for a night in Aberfolye at and dinner in the chippie/pub (I'm pretty sure this was a highlight of the trip for some - ordering a pint and a chip super to be delivered together πŸ˜…)

The next day we snaked through Loch Ard forest catching more signs of civilization/industrialisation - the Victorian surge shafts of the Loch Katrine and Lomond water supply to Glasgow.

We stopped for a quick lunch and the amazing before winding along the West Highland way into Glasgow. Not before one last hurrah from the weather - a skin-stinging hailstorm and torrential rain πŸ˜…πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

We finished at with amazing doughnuts kindly arranged by .and.blonde and

Day 3 & 4 of

Another two days of totally mixed weather! Heavy showers, brilliant sunshine, plus hail and snow blowing through. Bitter cold still but a glorious tailwind πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ

From Laggan Hall we rejoined the route and headed towards Laggan loch - I've always loved the views from that track 😍

We then decided to miss Lochan na h-Earba (sacrilege I hear you shout 😱 but don't worry - everyone had done it before on my Corrour trips πŸ˜‰ and the weather wasn't being kind at that point!)

From there it was the glorious gravel to where I'd arranged coffee and cake for everyone.

The heavens opened for Road to the Isles but then the sun shone at the top giving us the most wonderful views.

down to Georgetown Hall - another great wee place you can pay to camp in. No showers but warm, a kitchen and toilets.

An early start for the Blackwood of Rannoch section before whizzing down the for soup and coffee to warm us up.

Then the meandering road of Glen Lyon before the final up and over to Killin.

Day 1 & 2 of
Unpopular opinion - the Great Glen Way is definitely not my favourite part πŸ˜†

Yes there's nice views etc - but I never feel like I get my flow on it! I don't know - it just feels... clumpy πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ It's probably a me issue πŸ˜…

We split the group as we had some mechanical issues - so most went up the high route whilst 3 of us did the low route (adding a nice new line on my heatmap so I wasn't complaining πŸ˜‰) and met back up to roll into Fort Augustus in the early evening.

We stayed at before embarking on the Corrieyarrick Pass the next day.

I love this section 😍 Grinding up (OK I was on an eeb πŸ˜† but this is the first time I've ridden an eeb on it!) I feel myself relax and exhale as we get more remote and away from towns etc.

This is the landscape I feel most at home in. The landscape that reduces my stress and let's me switch off.

(Until the water bars πŸ˜†)

A bitter cold summit with snow blowing through and freezing hands and feet as we descend. I feel so alive in that sort of weather. I feel every hail stone on my face. I am truly present.

A quick pit stop at Melgarve to refuel then an easy roll to Laggan village hall - which you can bivvi in for a small donation - and it even has hot showers.

A huge feast and an early night for us all (mainly because I was sleeping on the dining room table so threw everyone out at 2030 πŸ˜…πŸ˜΄)

guided trip completed!
(Day by day posts coming soon!)
This was my first time guiding this route - I'm not going to lie, I was a bit nervous about it even though I've ridden it both ways before and have 6 seasons guiding under my belt now. It just felt bigger, longer, more epic and more challenging than anything I'd done previously. My longest multi-day guiding before was 4 days.
My peri-brain was on overdrive 🫣 self doubt, anxiety etc.
But - I knew my clients (everyone had been on my trips before) I had a fab co-guide , I put in hours of logistics planning - accommodation, food drops, restocks, contingencies etc etc and I had on call for 4x4 rescue at any time.
It's a big trip - with big hills and big asks for a group of strangers riding and staying together for the first time.
And... yes - we faced challenges, we had mechanicals and kit failures, we had low energy times, we had a few unscheduled dismounts, we had ALL the weather 😬 BUT - we fixed them, everyone braved on, kept smiling and kept helping each other on. A true team effort (as these things have to be)
An utterly amazing group of people who pushed themselves, kept positive and kept turning those pedals ❀️ A true journey.
So - would do it all over again?
Go on then πŸ˜…
Shout if you're keen for 2027 😘

Great fun to be out on Frankenbike - my original bikepacking rig that I've done so many of my trips on - although nowadays I guide on an eeb so I can tow if needed.

Want to try bikepacking in 2026? I've got a few spaces left on my trips - experience a relaxed adventure whilst learning all about the kit etc.

All my 2 day trips are suitable for ebikes and some are suitable for adaptive cycles too (just ask which ones!)

You'll ride predominantly on gravel - with some tarmac and easy single track. I try to include a cafe stop on routes too (because β˜• & 🍰 = πŸ™Œ)

This is my 7th season guiding bikepacking trips in Scotland, so you can be confident that I'll pick great routes and take you to the best viewpoints, whilst sharing my experience and knowledge about kit, bikes and camping.

Drop me a DM or email for any queries.
