Standing proudly above the Atlantic at Garajau, just east of Funchal, this striking statue has quite a story to tell.
The Cristo Rei statue was inaugurated in 1927, making it older than both the famous Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro and Cristo Rei in Lisbon. ✝️🌊
With its outstretched arms overlooking the Atlantic, it has become one of Madeira’s most recognisable landmarks, with spectacular views along the coastline and across the ocean. 🌴☀️🌊
