We’ve just had a few days in the cottage , exploring some places that we’ve not previously visited (sharing pics and recommendations shortly). Wanted to share these pics I took this morning - neighbour has been looking after our garden, it’s looking so welcoming !

I can never tire of the views from the cliffs between Charmouth and Lyme Regis. To have such things on the doorstep of Daisy Cottage is a wonderful thing…

Until we became hosts we didn’t realise how punitive the Airbnb rating system is . A 4 star rating triggers an email warning that we need to up our game for example.
Please think when you rate Airbnbs, hosts are on the most part private individuals, like us,who are striving to provide a service , we’re not a big hotel chain or leisure park , and we don’t make huge profits . in our case we’re just keen to share our second home with like minded guests . We always say to our guests that if you have an issue during your stay please give us an opportunity to put it right . We provide lots of information prior to arrival so that expectations are set … for example we don’t provide baby kit , including stair gates … so if you arrive expecting a stair gate having not read the info or not enquiring with us beforehand, please don’t knock off a star … we’d prefer it if you just didn’t bother to leave a review in that case ….

I recently spotted this great explanation of how AirBnB ratings work on a host forum and thought it would be worth sharing. Until we became hosts ourselves we didn't realise the implications of low ratings on hosts. We recently received a 3 star review because the guest didn't like the fact that there are no towel rails in the bathroom or shower room and that there are no wardrobes in the bedrooms (despite our house manual , which is sent out in advance, clearly explaining that we don't have wardrobes in the bedrooms but provide wooden hangers on the back of the doors).
As a result we had an alert on our listing raised by AirBnB and a warning to improve the quality of our service...As guests who have stayed with us know, we work hard to go above and beyond in making sure we're responsive and ensure our guests are well provided for.
Hopefully the info below, copied from another host , helps give a bit more context to the AirBnB review process.

ever been to the on Burton Bradstock beach? it’s a favourite place of ours for breakfast . But today it was where we hunkered down and enjoyed a bowl of soup before braving the storm outside. We love the West Dorset coastline , for windswept walks in the winter and beach barbecues at sunset in the summer … it’s just beautiful here no matter the weather!

so many beautiful places to visit in West Dorset. Why not plan a trip to Abbotsbury while you’re staying at the cottage? not only can you visit the Abbotsbury tropical gardens, you could also walk to St Catherine’s chapel and take in the spectacular views
