Perhaps we’ve been thinking about winter all wrong.

Summer availability is already pretty scarce at this little beachside retreat, and it’s not hard to see why. Perfectly positioned above Ritsa Beach, uninterrupted views of the sea, and a private path that gets you there in two minutes.

The two-bedroom bolthole keeps things simple with natural stone walls, a neutral colour palette and plenty of outdoor space beneath the pines. Hiking, biking, kayaking and swimming are just some of the ways you can while away a blissful day here, and Kardamyli’s various eateries are a short stroll away if you don’t fancy cooking. As a charming and comfortable base for exploring this delightful corner of the Peloponnese, we’re not sure this can be beaten.

Ben from our Bookings team recently enjoyed a stay at this little slice of paradise, and his standout impression was just how much soul this private island has.

His ocean-view villa had a huge terrace and daybed, but the real appeal lies in the pared-back luxury and serious commitment to conservation. It’s also exceptionally family-friendly, with turtle hatchling releases, daily conservation workshops and beaches where you can easily find your own stretch of sand. Food is another highlight, particularly the Malaysian and Indian dishes: think poori with lamb curry, grilled squid with sambal and prawn biryani. Less honeymoon hideaway, more island adventure for the whole family.

Arriving by seaplane, this tiny island appears as a ribbon of white sand surrounded by an expanse of turquoise.

You can swim around it in just 30 minutes, but there’s plenty here to fill a week: snorkel straight from the beach, take a boat out to nearby reefs, join a dolphin cruise or head to a neighbouring sandbank to dine or sleep beneath the stars.
