Torbay launches local sea safety campaign alongside national effort

We are supporting a national sea safety campaign with the RNLI and Paddle UK. We are also running our own local campaign in Torbay. This campaign focuses on a hidden danger along our coast: offshore winds.

Our local campaign highlights the risks in Torbay. Offshore winds here can quickly blow people and inflatables out to sea, even when the weather looks calm. Last year, inflatables were involved in 16.2% of local incidents. This shows how important it is to share this safety message.

To support beach safety in Torbay, windsocks have been installed at key locations alongside the new English Riviera Beach Standards. This helps residents and visitors to easily identify wind direction and strength before entering the water.

🎥 Watch our new intro video to learn more about the risks and how to stay safe, and keep an eye out for more films coming soon as part of this campaign series. Watch on YouTube: https://orlo.uk/iLjHe

If you get into difficulty in the water, or spot someone who needs help, remember to Float to Live and call 999, asking for the Coastguard.
