Watching thousands of guillemots cling to the cliffs at Harp Rock on Lunga is something you never forget.
The sound, the sea spray, and the sheer scale of the seabird colony make this one of the wildest experiences on Scotland’s west coast.

You will sometimes see Lunga puffins carrying long beakfuls of grass back to their burrows in spring and early summer. This is equal opportunities! - either parents may help gather nesting material. This material will insulate the nest from cold and damp conditions, cushion the egg so it doesn’t rest directly on hard ground and keep the puffling dry and protected.
